I'm in the process of modifying my daily driver tune to make smoke. Tonight I was playing around and just added 20% on B0720 (MAIN INJECTION PULSE) and it did smoke a lot more. But, I have alot of "rattle". Didn't seem liked it sounded good..

What more steps should I take for this smoke tune ?

Add fuel at low boost. Basically do you see where the table slopes up the the one corner. Now flatten that out across the top and ou will hav plenty.

Then retard some timing and turn down the boost.

I'm not really wanting it a pure smoker. Just a little extra on my daily tune. As Far as the injector noise, should I be worried. How can I correct that?

if you just want something to puff a bit before the boost kicks in cut back the boost a little in the low to mid rpm range and then try cutting back the PW to 10 % also you can add a little fuel pressure to help get mroe fuel in there. my truck is sensitive to fuel pressure it ratles really bad if I bump up the pressure to fast. I Acutally had to cut back the fuel pressure 2% to get rid of some of the rattle before boost kicks in. might go another 2 % after i'm done testing what I have now.I dont know how to work the MAF table supposedly you can use that to get mroe fuel in there for smoke, that will be another thing for me to mess with when I have time.

I'm looking for a smoke tune to put on one of my DSP5 settings in the near future. I'm worried about "cylinder wash" and hydro-locking as many have eluded to. I guess the safest way is to step it up slowly rather than all at once, but I was hoping to see if someone had already done a LB7 smoke tune that is SAFE for the motor and tranny. I'm gonna monitor this thread and see if someone stumbles on a nice smokey tune that won't blow things up.....come on guys, I know you can do it!

Is it timing rattle or cutting in and out.

If its cutting in and out you are draining the rail, but I doubt that with only 20% on an LBZ.

If you played with the timing you could be hearing that, it is fine just watch the temps.

If you just want to add smoke to a daily driver even out the table like I said. This will only give you smoke at low boost.

A bad rattle.

I'm still playing with it.. :D

Billdog350, what motor do you have. If its an LB7 I could make one soon and post it on the site for you.

It will be a tranny safe tune as it wont make any power.

Looks like he has a LB7.

oh ya whoops. I was hoping he didnt so I had an excuse to not make a tune.

Guess Ill break out the laptop. Gonna be hard making a tranny safe tuine with a built tranny though,

Thanks durallymax! As far as limping the tranny, I just did that for the first time last night. I told my daughters that the boost gauge is the "fun gauge" so they started yelling for more boost. A couple rolls from 60mph @30psi put the tranny in limp mode...

My solution for not limping the tranny is to have any high power or smoke tunes on my DSP switch toward the "high" end. Plenty of guys have said that the limp usually happens at WOT in OVERDRIVE so I'll be clicking my DSP tune over to something less aggressive around 65-70mph before it shifts to OD.

I appreciate you spooling up a tune for me!

DSP is all wired up and working great. I don't have an official smoke tune yet but when I switch to my "base" tune (which is set for approx +200hp) it smokes like a bastard!

Interesting that the 200hp and 100hp tune both shake at idle when its warming up, but the 75hp neens and stock don't....must be something funky between them.

Neens is a good tuner. Since he made two for you, I would have him check out your other ones to see whats going on.

He didn't make the tunes for me, I downloaded them from the library. However you have an excellent point. I'll contact him and see what his opinions are on the other tunes. I enjoy "self tuning" and have gotten my 1997 C5 tweaked up quite nicely, I would like to get to a point like that with my Duramax....talking to a pro helps shorten the learning curve.

Well three more local guys want their LB7s tuned.

I think Im gonna see if I can go sit on a dyno and make the tune. This sunday I will work on the tune at the dragstrip. Maybe Ill bring one of the guys down or put the tune in my tow rig to see how it is on the stock tranny. The run it in my truck for monitoring other things.

Should be interesting.

Hopefully you guys will be getting tunes soon if all goes well, but with me it never does.

Durallymax....I'm more than happy to throw you some $$$ for your time, esp if you're dynotuning the tunes! Keep me posted!

Well I found a guinea pig. His truck is perfect for testing these tunes. It is all stock and has a pyro. Exactly what I wanted.

And he will head to the dyno event with me so I can further tune them.

These will be tuned on the street for speed and economy, and will be designed so that they do not limp a strong stock trans and the temps stay low.

It may take some time but im hoping to have 4 tunes created. Econ, Tow, Power, Smoke
