Not sure if this is in the right place or not, didn't know where to put it.

so my 91 Chevy has been getting slow upgrades still acquireing parts with alot of thanks to Barry here he has helped me out with some really nice parts. But what shoudl I do motor wise? I have the 6.2 surplus motor in the shop but I can get my dads 4.8 from his 2000 as he will be going to 5.3 or 6.0 for a performance build.

The mileage would be comparable with the two motors I think the 4.8 would perform better maybe? I am going for a reliable economical cruiser. I could build the 350 TBI up but the economy will never be great on it. I'm torn I love the clatter of a diesel but I love the high rev scream of a SBC

Anyway here is the truck I will make this the start of build thread I suppose. Here she is 2 owner 140k mile all origal 92 Z71 heavily optioned and the interior is spotless no rips tears or stains.

Engine runs great smooth strong doesn't use oil but leaks it like a siv. Needs the oil filter gasket replaced and maybe oil cooler lines. The tranny shifts smooth and fast but is a bit slow into gear in the morning, the pump is prolly a bit tired. It sat for 5 years after being the DD for the last guy for a few years.

I just changed the rear end out after I gernaded the factory 10 bolt, I did a few to many doughnuts maybe in the snow but I shredded the pinion gear. All is weel now I also replaced the wheel cylinder brake shoes, brake kit, drums, brake lines, u joint. Working my way forward.
