Guy wanys 7k. It has 110k miles. Any known issues. I don't know much about cummins other than I was told to stay away from 98-99 B Blocks.

Man, you can beat a 12V.

Those mileage numbers are AWESOME. They're not even scheduled for thier first overhaul until 350K.

That 3500 DRW that you posted the link to looks to be in INCREDIBLE shape. Looking at the engine bay and around the frame, there are no signs of any mods, it just looks like it was GENTLY used as a truck.

The ONLY area of concern is the transmission. The 47RE isn't bad under stock conditions, but it does leave a bit to be desired if you tow a lot or plan to do any hot rodding to it. Nothing that a simple valve body and a good torque converter can't handle.

For the price he's asking on that '97....I jump on it in a HEARTBEAT.

I don't know. I did a carfax on the 97. It was in an accident. Look at the front bumper in the pics. It's sagging. My main issue is Used car dealers are for the most part slimeballs that grab junk from the auctions that dealers won't sell. It is tempting though. I'd have to give it a real good going through. I shot him an email. You think that 95 is not bad either huh ?

I'm assuming you know of a few spots to look at on a Cummins, but if you need any pics of spots to look at, lemme know.

More than likely I have pictures of most of the spots and items that get modded.

From what I have gathered the main thing is to watch out for "53" blocks other than that I don't know a whole lot about them. I may go look at that 97. Damn good price. want to see what he'll give me in trade on my 2000.

Yeah, you wanna stay away from the 53.

Look around the exaust manifold and the exhuast elbow for signs of an EGT probe.

Look for a boost bolt or a 1/8 NPT plug in the intake horn for signs of a boost gauge.

Look at the wiring going to the VP44 for signs of a wire tap. most of the performance boxes require the pump wire to be tapped.

Look around the power steering pump for any leakage.

If it's an automatic, look at the inspection cover for signs of oil. This could be signs of a rear main leak, or more commonly a cam seal leak.

Other than that, there's not much else to watch out for.

I love the 12 v trucks. They just run good and last forever. It's a pretty truck. Even the "Dreaded B blocks" are not that bad. It's a casting issue but no big deal unless you are gonna be makin some big #'s. Also I beleive it only effected 97 trucks, I could be wrong though.

98-99.
I took it for a test drive today. Seemed pretty good. Very clean underneath but that always worries me when it looks "too clean". It drove like it should. Thought I felt a very slight vibration taking off but probably not used to the cummins. It pulled nice, looks to be all stock and only 67k miles . The dealer is well known and he only sells clean stuff for top dollar. No Junk. He said right off if I tradeed my truck in he'd send it to the auction as he doesn't mess with high mile stuff. Think it comcomes with 60 day 6k warranty but gotta double check. I got him down to 19k and a free brake controller installed. What do you guys think ? The engine is spotless except a slight residue on the oil pan by trans cover but I drove it for a good half hour and it didn't look any different. The only other thing I could find wrong with it was a little rust starting on the inside bottom edges of the doors.

That's a classic symptom of a u-joint or a carrier bearing on the driveshaft going bad.

Check the rear driveshaft u-joints. If it has a two piece driveshaft, check that carrier bearing.

Is that oil on the driverside, down near the pan? If it is, look up. There is a tube that runs up to the crankcase breather. That's more than likely just the blow by tube.

OK Thanks. One of my customers is a Mechanic at Cummins, he plays with these trucks as a hobby as well. I think before dumping 20k I may throw him a few to go give it a once over. If the truck checks out is it worth 19k ? It is a 2500. Pretty much every option it looked like. Although no cd..:(
