Just got into Singapore today and I am amazed (again) by how many diesel vehicles there are here. Seems like every other car/truck is a diesel.
So far just in the few hours I've been here I've seen Bunches of Toyota cars (mostly taxis) A VW Touraege (sp?) several Datsun crew cab trucks, a bunch of smaller Isizu trucks, Mersedes and some little unidentified cars with diesels.

It would be nice to have the same choices in USA. Someting like a Toyota Tacoma crew cab diesel. Something just to get around in. If I need to tow heavy then break out the Super Duty or Dmax or 6.5

Oh and these are all right hand drive.

Singapore? You're on vacation in Singapore? Thats cool. I woulda figured someplace warm with beaches...

Singapore is our first stop. We are going to Malasia and to Thailand next. Were doing the sea kayak tour of the "james bond island" in ****et. Then bounceing around from beach to beach.

I would think the biodiesel market would be huge here. So many diesel vehicles and so many resturants with WVO.

That wierd, I have tried to edit this twice the word above ****et is ****et

OK this makes 3 times, for some reason when I submit this message the word ****et defaults to the above. Let me see if this will work. Its the island of P H U K E T

Very cool holiday, Leroy...

Two things spring immediately to mind...

1] how much IS fuel over there?

and

2] :nopics:

LOL... post 'up some photos when/if you get a chance. We're friggin freezing to death over here and could use some warm sights! :D

Jim

Gotta love that word filter! ):h

Yea I was wondering about that. The "PH" in P h u k e t is pronounced as a P and not an F. The F sound would make it a totoally different word (to the ear):nono:

Kind of like saying real fast "if you see kay"

I am working on pictures, Im not sure if I can download them on this computer yet.

Diesel is expensive here at $1.21 Sing dollars per LITER. Thats over $4.00 per gallon. Diesel is cheaper here than gas. Not sure if its ULS or not.
When we were paying over $4.00 in the states a few months ago it must have been over $8.00 here.

I'm going to have to wait until I get back to post pictures because I do not have the cable or software here. I bought an extra 1gb memory card for the camera. Anyone know appox how many pictures can be taken with that. I have a 3.2 mega pixel and will set it to 0.3 resolution?

OK Im back home

Here are a couple of pictures. I thought Singapore had alot of diesels. Thailand had way more diesels. Mostly Tacoma size 4 door trucks. They had Toyota, Isizu, Ford, Chevy, Mistubishi, Datsun.

Those are nice-lookin' little trucks. Any idea what kind of mileage/performance they get? Has to be better than a Prius...

FYI, Diesel here is now officially cheaper than gas again... 77.9 cents/litre for diesel vs 82.9 c/l for RUG.

I haven't seen that in a few years now, which has been driving me nuts.

Not sure of the KPL/MPG, but I would say they have to be close to 30MPG +or-. I was able to pick up a new brocher for the Toyota. They say its a 3.0 turbo, 4cly, 16valve, 171hp@ 3600rpm, and tourqe of 343Nm @ 1400 rpm. It is a common rail injection set up also.
I can't tell if it has functional ram air on the Toyota above and the intercooler inside the engine bay or is the scoop flowing air over the intecooler and the air filter is the big round thing in the engine bay.

I'm surprised to see 7 Elevens over there. Who owns them, locals or the usual?

LOL ... let me guess... over there, the 7-11s are staffed by white guys who can't speak Mandarin without an accent... :D

They are Sing owned.
If anyone get the chance to go to Singapore I highly recomend it. 99% speak english and it is the cleanest city I have ever seen.

Thailand is where you found Toyota, Isuzu, Nissan and Mitsubishi assy plants for the light trucks and some more city cars designed for asian and Pacific area markets, that may explain why you see so many of them--
Most of these light trucks are almost funny and powerful to drive. Their DiD engines are 4 cyl diesel turbocharged, between 3 to 3.2 liters with power output rated at 170 Horse power, they are called Toyota VIGO (aka Hilux) Mitsubishi Triton ( aka Sportero), Isuzu D-max (they even rebadged some, Z71 :006: - remember, Isuzu belongs to GM group) and Nissan NAVARA ( a smaller Titan)
