Been coding 36, injection pulse width error(long). running 228 to 232ms. switched from 2 cycle to Heaths recommended non-detergent 30weight motor oil. reduced time to 2.23. ran gmtdscan today, with homemade remote pmd, took snapshots. at 600 rpm 2.22pulse ran jumper cable bat to pump, reduced to 2.09. rpm up to 1069, 2.23, with ground cable, 2.10.

will run permanent extra ground to clear problem. AGAIN, first sign of problem, check grounds.

Are you running oe battery grounds? Any abnormal amount of resistance in ground cables? I've gone redundant on grounds on my 95 LD because of all the weird electrical problems. Extra cables battery to frame, battery to body, engine to frame and engine to body. I'm still having weird problems but I know it's not the grounds. I think the snow plow may be to blame for low voltage to electronics. Plow removed.

So your thinking that 2 stroke oil was messing with your optical sensor?

double grounds to frame and engine, will be adding one to firewall and IP. all other grounds cleaned this year. I definitely believe the 2 stroke caused an issue-just not the main issue. I monitored the slow come down on pulse width as a few tanks of fuel went through it-while changing nothing else(are they truly connected-????). a .09ms does not sound like much, but with the ground issue it was just enough over to throw a code.

without gmtdscan It would be tough to observe slight changes and run real time tests. thought I would post this as I have not come across this exact issue, just other parts of it. have not had time to read all posts on how IP works-so the 2 cycle oil is only supposition.

Low voltage will also cause a long pulse width. Mine was like that and I put new batts in. Much better. Junk INterstates. I replaced them with a coulple Die easys. Voltage reading improved as well as pulse width.

I'm bumping this, after 10 min. of searching.
It's thrown 2 DTC 36 in 3 months. Not with OPTI LUBE, but it does it with 2-stroke. Runs better with 2-stroke and a little Diesel Kleen gray bottle, but I can go to ND30 if that's the final solution?

An itty bitty air can cause that code 36 as well, are you sure that is not at the root of the problem.
Do you have a clear tube on the IP return?

I run 2 stroke all the time with no problems. That value needs to be around 1.6 not above 2 at all. That is the closure time, not the actual pulse width. But the pulse width depends on how fast it can close after the PMD cuts off the pulse voltage.

If anyone does a homemade PMD remote harness that black wire that goes to the top of the IP should not be extended at all.

A constant closure time problem would seem like an aging fuel solenoid, or the contacts on the fuel solenoid under that rubber boot under the intake could be corroded and its connection to ground (on top of IP) and power from PMD may be degraded.

An occasional DTC36 could just be from air bubble or a sticky fuel solenoid and 2 stroke or oil of some kind helps.

I don't remember on the first DTC36, if we were low on fuel (we never let it get down to 1/4 tank).
This last one was on over 3/4 tank, but wife was pushing it hard to get Daughter to the airport(80 mph).
I don't have the clear chunk of return line, my son took it off for his CR125. Thanx for reminding me I have to get another; the black rubber is hard to see through. ;)
BUT... since it has only happened twice, at freeway speeds, It'll be harder to see  (Dave being dragged beside the truck on the freeway) I know somebody would like to see that.:nonod:

And... I don't have to switch from wally world Tech 2 stroke? good.
Since I recieved the new Walbro LP, and Racor filter kit, should this problem go away after I actually put them ON the truck, not just hauling them around IN the truck?

Thanx for the input, guys.
I have great groung connections coated with conductive paste.
SO... I'll try to remember to update after the upgrade-parts-install party. Anybody want to come down to Ensenada, Baja California? :cheers2: :friday:
