Grabbed a "carcode" cable off ebay...

what is that nonsense about BP stock recovery? I would thing that the recent version would be USB and not serial ports. Many laptops no longer have serial ports. So you may have been better off at aldlcable.com

Need the cable to talk to car code, already tried a couple other cables and no joy, even my elm327 chipped cable.

Mines a 98, OBDII, ALDL no worky.

Tricom is an older cable, Trican is the new one that does can bus (which I don't need).

web site is 122 bucks for a cable that only does vpw, this does all the protocals except Can Bus.

serial cable is no bit deal, my scanner laptop has a serial port and serial port is a solid connection when driving. I've never been a fan of USB in a moving vehicle. Learned that from building carputers, USB is subject to data loss and disconnects in a "vibrating" environment.

Agree on the BP recovery stuff, little confused on that. Same with the web site and GM recovery. Maybe it's to get more search hits?

I think you need the 'gm enhanced' carcode dongle. :(

All the TDC settings and cylinder turn offs, and whatnots are under the 'enhanced' section.

Not sure what the BP includes....

$10 for OBD2 to serial cable, does this one not have what you needed, is there some more circuitry its missing, because its maybe supposed to go into a USB adapter?

The cable in your link is not designed to connect to the laptop serial cable, it goes to a scan tool that connects to the laptop.

The car code cable goes from the obdii connector to the laptop serial cable...

I just ordered it too. I spoke with the guy on the phone. Aparrently there are two partners and the one who runds the website is a screwball and added all that crap in thinking it would show up in search engines better. I bought it from the midtex autoparts guy. I got he can trican cable. it was more money but supposedly worth it. we shall see....

Got it today. It is a PIA to use, no doubt. I could not get the cyl kill to work. Gives an error. I would not buy this program again for what I paid for it.

Dunno what to tell ya.

61 bucks plus shipping and everything works just fine on mine......

Enhanced test, cyl kill, time set, tdco, pids, dtc history........everything.

even some limited datalogging.

Handy little tool for just a touch over 60 bucks.

You bought a used tricom. I bought a new Trican. I guess that is the difference ?? Mine will supposedly do canbus too. Did you actually try the cyl kill or just saw that it had it ? I tried and it said something like too many things running or something like that. I'll try again tomorrow and write down exactly what it said. ON a brighter note I am at -53 TDCO and 11.9 Act and des tim so it's good as far as I am concerned.

Tried Cyl kill.

Works fine.

Kinda scared me actually. 1-7 worked fine and then 8 did nothing.

Thought I had a dead hole and then tried it again and it worked.

Heart jumped up in my throat that day.......
