gauges for 6.5 turbo diesel???

My dash temp gauge isn't working. I changed the sending unit at the crossover housing still nothing. Somewhere there's a problem. Can I just run an aftermarket gauge and wire it to the factory sender?
 
The crossover sender is for the ecm, the one for the gauge is in the front of the driver side head.
