By the sounds of it, since your new to diesels, you want some better economy, and the amazing power everybody claims. But at the same time you still want to keep it simple and easy to use as well as getting the most bang for your buck.
Id reccomend the Edge Juice with attitude monitor. Its $812 anywhere you go and is definately worth it.
It comes with 5 on the fly adjustable power levels and an optional "HOT" level that you can have for an extra $100 after signing a waiver. YOu can add the Hot tune at anytime as it is all ready in the tuner, you just need EDGE to give you the 4 digit code to unlock it.
THe Edge Juice also has many built in safety features including shift defueling, which can be turned off for racing, and fueling backdown when the EGTs get too high. It is also interfaced with a K-Type thermocouple which is included in the kit.(the thermocouple measures exhaust temp which is very important)
The Attitude monitor allows you to watch 1, 2, 3 or 4 different parameters at the same time and it also has audible warnings. Theres quite a few things you can choose from to monitor.
Installation is a breeze and at most it will take 2 hours to install. I myself can have one in , in under 30 minutes. Its like everything in life, once you know how to do it its easy the second time. The hardest part is drilling and tapping the hole in the exhaust manifold for the thermocouple, but believe me you want the thermoucouple.
Everything else is pretty mouch plug and play, snaking the attitude wires into the cab, and mounting the module and monitor. No tapping into the fuse box is neccessary.
They stand behind it too with a 2 year warrenty. After the warrenty is up they will give you a new Juice/Attitude at a discounted price. When my dads died it cost $250 to get a new one.
As you can see I really like this tuner. However there is a downside. They have been known to loose communication and thus the trucks electronic system will freak out and the truck will shut down. If that happens, simply disconnect it and keep driving. It takes no tools to disconnect. Then send it into Edge.
If that tuner doesnt have enough power theres always the PPE.
If the Edge is too much money, hypertech is a good deal. You can also get the edge juice without the monitor at a good price.
If you have some extra cash and want a backup camera and GPS intergrated into your tuner, you can get the A2 display for an extra grand I believe.
Or if you have a lot of time on your hands, have some know how of how an engine works, and want a tuner that will grow with your mods theres always EFI Live.
