Difference between DS-5288 and DS-5521

A year ago (July 2008) I had a new injector pump installed on my truck. According to the invoice I got they put in a DS-5521 pump. The truck's been having hot start issue ever since. I've put up w/it over the year and finally can't take it no more. Took it in again and had it replaced under warranty. They told me there was something "internally wrong" w/the original pump and put in a new one.

On the invoice this time it said they put in a DS-5288. I did some poking around but couldn't find any solid info on what the difference between the 2 is.

Anyone know?

Truck's a 1994 K2500 L65 vin F truck w/a 4L80E 4:10 gears

There is no real difference in those pumps especially when rebuilt. They are compatable with eachother.

Did it solve your problem? If not then a hot start issue can be caused by batteries pretty easily.

It did solve my problem. Last night I drove from Bowmanville back to Toronto (65km) all highway. When I got home I let it sat for 15 mins or so. Went back outside and she fired right up again.

I'll keep both my toes and fingers crossed.

Thanks,
Matt

Better check to see what you have. Seems to me the HD's had a 5068 pump, unless your's didn't, or the EPROM chip has been changed.

Back to your question about the 5068 pump: it was a 1 year special breed. It was a higher output pump than the 5521 pumps. It had a special EPROM to run it. If you mixed up the EPROM or the pump that was not compatable with the other, all sorts of fun would erupt with funky idle, and uncontrollable fuel rates.

They only apply to the 94 model year on HD trucks. So, that's the story on the 5068.... and the engine lived happily ever after.
