I just started getting code 34 yesterday, could this be caused by timing being off? Or just bad stepper motor? Thanks

Not likely due to set timing.
If the code is active it will freeze the measured injection timing that is reported at the value it was when it coded. Would be able to diagnose with GMTDScan or a scanner to display desired vs measured timing.
