Getting close to first start up of a rebuilt 6.2. What would you recommend for first start and getting the rings and can settled in? Planning on adding Lucas TB Zinc Plus to get things started.IMG_20171120_113837.jpg

Load the rings hard as soon as practical. Vary the RPM, Load, and Throttle often. Your goal is to get the lifter rollers spinning with ~2000 RPM as soon as oil pressure comes up. Your second goal is to break the 2nd ring in before the cylinder walls glaze over without overheating the ring. Thus it needs full power bursts, but, back off the throttle to allow the rings to cool back down/not overheat. You ***** foot it and the 2nd compression ring will NEVER break in. (I have seen several surplus 6.2's and a Grandpa driven 5.9 Cummins with 1/2 or more of the break in coating left on the 2nd ring.) Usual advice is not to tow for the first 500 miles, but, that's related to drive train rather than engine break in.

Check the oil daily as well as check for leaks.

The Lucas is good stuff. The Zinc level may not be EPA road legal per my oil analysts lab comments. :D IMO it's needed more for the flat tappet Cummins than the roller lifter 6.2/6.5's.
