can i just replace part of my hard brake line or do i need to replace all of it?

the only way you can replace part of the hard line is if you have a double flare tool. usually old brake lines are too hard and brittle to cut and reflare tho

That's my experience as well. Plus having to deal with re-flaring a rusty OD.
