BBC starter? Will if fit 6.2?

6.5 bolts are different? I re-used the bolt that held in my Direct drive 6.2 starter. Only difference was the starter bracket that i found. Hmmmm.......

If your starter's dragging it could be either worn brushes or worn bushings. It's not that expensive to rebuild one. I rebuilt mine for $25 in parts. That included a brand new Made in USA solenoid, brushes, brush holders, bushings, and a cut down of the commutator on the auto-electric shops lathe to remove it's out of round-ness.

That starter worked fantastic until the years of being oil soaked by leaky valve covers caused a field coil to short to ground. I've yet to replace the field coils, but i will and i'll keep the DD starter for a spare. I have a 6.5 GR starter in it now.

Starters for the 6.2/6.5 are all interchangeable but will not fit any other engine family.

The bolt spacing is different as is the gear size and number of teeth on the starter drive.

Flywheels and flexplates are the same scenario and will not fit any other engine family..

Also: RPM, current draw, and torque rating are way higher than a gas starter.

If you use a 6.2 or 6.5 nose piece, the olds 5.7 diesel starters are the same. I've swapped some. The guts are identical, except for the nose piece.
