Brought my truck in today for the ECM recalibration recall (finally) and they told me there was another one out there to add an in-line fuse to the heated windshield washer fluid circuit to prevent a short. They didn't have the part yet so I have to come back. Anyone hear about this one?

I have the same recall on the Denali. Supposedly to prevent fires due to the heated windshield washer system...

It applies to several vehicles; the new harness is supposed to have an inline fuse, but GM says no parts available until November.

It affects close to a million vehicles that have the heated winshield washer fluid system. Recall was announced publicly earlier in the week.

On August 29, 2008 General Motors released Product Safety Recall Bulletin 08048 which involved certain 2006-2008 model year Buick Lucerne; Cadillac DTS; HUMMER H2 vehicles; 2007-2008 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT; Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe; GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL; Saturn OUTLOOK vehicles; and 2008 model year Buick Enclave vehicles equipped with a heated washer fluid system. A total number of 857,735 vehicles are involved.

On these vehicles, a short circuit on the printed circuit board for the washer fluid heater may overheat the control-circuit ground wire. This may cause other electrical features to malfunction, create an odor or cause smoke. In rare cases, it may cause a fire. To correct this condition, when parts become available, dealers will install a wire harness with an in-line fuse.

Until parts are available this bulletin provides an interim remedy – removal of the heated windshield washer fuse. Removal of this fuse disables the washer fluid heater but does not affect windshield wiper operation.

GM is working with its suppliers to obtain the wire harness required for the final fix as quickly as possible. Based on the current schedule, we anticipate that parts will be available in November, 2008.

The purpose of this message is to advise dealers that the mailing of customer notification letters for this recall is scheduled to begin on September 12, 2008. The letter instructs customers not to contact their dealer regarding a service appointment until on or after November 1, 2008.

However, if a customer brings their vehicle into the dealership expressing concern about this situation, dealers are to remove their heated windshield washer fuse as an interim solution. When parts are available these customers will need to have the fuse replaced and the wire harness installed to complete this recall.

GMVIS information for this recall is currently available.
