ABS

Changed the ABS sensor on the passenger side since it was broke and the ABS light was on, but now almost everytime you hit the brakes, ABS comes on and it is a real PITA.

Some say it could be the the other side is dirty or may need replacement.


I can't stand that ABS on this ERA, its a joke. THat's why I unplugged 3 of the connectors on the unit under hood to disable it, without ABS light on.

Mine did the same thing after replacing one of my hubs (turned ABS light off, but ABS would do its stupid thing almost EVERY time)

NOt to mention, if you blow a rear brake line, and try to stop, and the ABS does its thing, guess what happens? Nothing, pedal to the floor, and you slam into whatever it was in front of you.... Ask me how I know.

X2 on unplugging everything, that what I have always done. I like to stop

I think the ABS stuff stores codes? I could be wrong (like most of the time ):h) Maybe try unhooking the battery's?

Pulling the 8 or 9 wire connector(towards the bottom of the ABS computer unit) will pretty much kill the ABS system so you can stop when you want to, not when the ABS computer wants you to.

My truck stops 100 times better than it ever did with the ABS, and mine always functioned "properly".

Drivers side inner well, all the lines go to it. unplug everything there. You wont have any dash lights after unpluging

When one sensor is unplugged or bad, abs light goes on, and abs is disabled.

After unplugging the 3 harness's out of abs, the abs light will not be on in the dash.

I wrote a post on TDP about my total disdain for the ABS systems.

My feelings are simple, if you dont know how to drive the rig, that stupid computer is not gonna save your A$$.

I have been in many situations that I needed everything hanging in the wind and or dragging in order to have a prayer of stopping.

The ABS took over and I ended up tossing the thing in reverse and flooring it to get stopped.

I dont recommend this technique but its better than plowing into a small car stopped on an icey road sitting sideways.

The ABS is the result of people who were never taught how to operate a rig properly.

These computers with limited amounts of input can't possibly handle the task at hand with any sort of reliability.

I hate to disable the stuff as the liability issues mount tremendously if you get in a wreck. Even if its not your fault, any equipment that has been tampered with will be scrutinized and you can bet that blame will be placed squarely on you for having faulty equipment.

Now if the stuff can be shut off or rendered inert without it being obvious, I'm all for it.

There needs to be a Key switch on this crap, so those of us who know how to drive can simply turn the stuff off so we dont get hurt.
