I see this referred to a lot. I searched but could find no specs on it, and only a few pictures of it......

What chassis is this charger? rotor group, turbine housing a/r and flange?
 
I searched and Skimmed through, I think I found what I was looking for. Seems like you guys found something that works....

My only other question, is why has nobody put an S300 chassis turbo on. Seems like a no brainer to me?

2 reasons for no s300. #1 is space. We have NONE in the stock location. #2 the 6.5 crowd is too cheap. And seems to lack innovators.
 
We are happy to have a turbo that works and is reasonable priced. Not everyone gets lucky and finds an S300 for cheap like you did. IIRC they cost anywhere from 1100-1500 from a dealer and our ATT costs 7-800 (im not 100% on that I havent bought one)

IMO I thought your truck acted like it turbo was a hair on the small side but I am not an expert by any means and it still runs great!

The turbo is the only bolt on kit for our truck. I hear how expensive it is all the time from some that hawk another ebay turbo. Production machining, warranty service and someone that drives what they sell. The price 769.00 plus shipping through me includes everything but hose clamps. For a brand new industrial quality turbo.

We have a dyno run with a Db2 mechanical pump turned up to 4911 specs plus a little 260.5 3500 rpm RWHP and 397.5 (3100rpm) foot pounds of torque at the rear wheels on a Mustang Dyno. Manual Transmission in fourth gear. Not bad numbers for us so far, but I know there is more and we have been experimenting with pre cups and I am interested in the cam that was made for the 6.9 liter Ford IDI. Wouldn't mind trying that grind in my truck.
 
Would the ATT work on a 93 DB2, with factory Air Conditioning? Was wandering if there was enough room, I am not about to give up AC for a turbo.

Yes Zielinski Family it will work on your 93 DB2 with factory air, you even get to keep the factory air box if that is what you want. The K47 factory air box is a great addition as well.

As for my turbo, my first turbo I got cheap, I just bought a new charger from a vender on Comp-D and paid $1070 shipped for a custom setup. You can buy a brand new, box stock BW unit for $700.

You are right, my first (and current) charger is too small, especially on the turbine side....

I'm glad to see this thread got reopened, I was a bit confused as to why it was closed, but I have since spoken with Slim-Shady and got most the answers I was looking for. We also spoke about cam changes so he may have an update for that in the future.
 
$700 isnt a bad price.. BUT it doesnt come as a kit and I doubt it has very much 6.5L customer support which some people want.

I dont mind setting up odd ball turbos but having someone to call when things go south is nice.

Ive got a 16cm HX40 on the way now that should be a nice set up to test.
 
Its not that the 6.5 crowd lacks innovators, its more that it has so many doubters that say thats all its good for, and you can't do any better. And when theyve rebuilt or swapped a half dozen or more engines in their own trucks its probably reasonable for them to have this attitude. GM made the trucks pretty crappy in stock form, poor block castings, ect...

But those attitudes rub off on everyone, and also there is not much aftermarket support to lead the way. The aftermarket settled for mediocrity as well. The guys that are usually the ones trying to sell you all sorts of cool modifications doesnt exist for the 6.5, because of its terrible reputation from the onset. Due to time and expense, most people don't put the money into a cheap truck, but that doesn't mean there isn't anyone out there doing new things with 6.5s, they just don't necessarily catch fire and everyone jump on board, or their not on the internet.

Its kind of hypocritical to say there are no innovators for not trying a specific turbo if you haven't done so yourself.
 
I have installed both the ATT and Buddy's HX40II turbo. Hands down a kit wins for a simple install. Buddy had a couple boxes of parts to make sure we had everything we needed for the HX40II, not a kit. Then we had to grind, drill, and cut. Let alone fab the custom downpipe for the exhaust. Add a new air filter setup and the oil fittings.

The ATT kit was a cakewalk to install.

I agree with Buddy 100%. Info on turbo's was hard to find, the aftermarket isn't there for a 6.5. Everyone is worried about dissipating the extra heat the restrictive factory turbo keeps in the engine. Then everyone worries about smoke and the time it takes to get boost.

Look at my ATT dyno run of the smoke when I stomp it - the GM3 would have smoked too just for a shorter time and then smoked again at the top end.

Getting rid of the factory turbo increased my MPG from 7 to 10.4 under load towing 7% grades. It reduced the amount and time the cooling fan ran even with a Kennedy Diesel low temp clutch. And best of all it increased MPH from 43 MPH to 55 MPH on the grades.
 
Not to mention with performance there are now good block castings out there for the 6.2/6.5. Thats part of why with my build I didn't do much to the bottom end (studs, girdle, and fluid damper). Hell it used to be the thought that if you went over 12psi with any turbo on these motors it was guaranteed to blow. Better turbo's and studs have tremendously helped with that.
 
Just fyi, it isnt another pump turned up to 4911 specs. it is a DB2-4911 turned up past specs. Right after I dyno with the other housing I am turning the fuel up. This next dyno run will be just to compare the ATT large housing, the small housing, and the GM-3. I think I will have pretty accurate results since it is the same truck on the same dyno. After I get this run done, I am going for all out power. Will keep updates for you guys

its already been done, peninsular has been playing with them for years... and your crack about innovators is the reason that you dont post anymore over on oilburners, right?:rof:

That's the way I took it......

For the record though, I don't post there anymore because I joined the Band...... otherwise, I enjoyed ruffling their feathers.

In the months following mine and Racin's departure though, most of the OB members showed their faces on the other websites we joined to keep up.....
