Its not that the 6.5 crowd lacks innovators, its more that it has so many doubters that say thats all its good for, and you can't do any better. And when theyve rebuilt or swapped a half dozen or more engines in their own trucks its probably reasonable for them to have this attitude. GM made the trucks pretty crappy in stock form, poor block castings, ect...
But those attitudes rub off on everyone, and also there is not much aftermarket support to lead the way. The aftermarket settled for mediocrity as well. The guys that are usually the ones trying to sell you all sorts of cool modifications doesnt exist for the 6.5, because of its terrible reputation from the onset. Due to time and expense, most people don't put the money into a cheap truck, but that doesn't mean there isn't anyone out there doing new things with 6.5s, they just don't necessarily catch fire and everyone jump on board, or their not on the internet.
Its kind of hypocritical to say there are no innovators for not trying a specific turbo if you haven't done so yourself.
