I have a stock Ally and will be that way until my 36k warranty runs out and then whenever I can find the coin to build a better tranny in her. I mostly just drive her back and forth to work but I do have a 7200 lb. camper I tow and other moderate/heavy loads every once in awhile. Now, with that said, Im really interested in this product. I would rather purchase now then say a Edge and then turn around after a year or so and buy this.

1) Are there quite a few tunes to stay in the Ally's "safe range" ? Im mostly interested in light hp/tq gains with economy in mind till the tranny is fixed up.

2) Say if I subscribe to duramaxtuner's library, will I be able to save the tunes I use so after a year goes by I don't have to buy another year to use the same ones?

3) Is it really as simple as downloading a tune you like and reflashing the ECM and trying it out?

If you subscribe to the tune library you will be able to save as many tunes as you want and be able to use them for as long as you want. There is no time limit on the tunes you download.

another guy over on the old site was talking about running less than 8 cylinders to save on fuel. i think he said he had a 6 cylinder tune, 4 cylinder tune and even a 2 cylinder tune. is that safe?? i mean i wouldn't mind running on 6 cylinders down the highway at 65 instead of 75 if it got me an additional 10 mpg, but that's not hardly worth it if there is damage happening inthe engine.

I don't think you can turn off cylinders....I have EFI Live and you can play with each cylinder, maybe that is what he is talking about.

from the sounds of it, he was shutting the fuel off to several cylinders with a certain tune so he could use less fuel.

Imagine the fuel and cost saving if you could use 4 and only jump to 8 when needed. That in itself would justify buying EFI Live. Would be one hell of a selling point. :D

x2, hopefully some EFI geniouses can chime in. i'd buy a five position switch for that deal.

If that were the case the wife could complain all she wanted about money.
That would have to be an early Christmas present to me. :cheers2:

How can you "play" with each cylinder?

If i understand correctly. Play= adjusting fuel rates, pressure, timing etc.... of each cylinder. So assuming i am correct i would guess you could turn fuel off completly in a given cylinder. Im not for sure what else would go into it and someone correct me if im wrong. Boy efi live sounds more and more tempting every time i read about it

Thats what im thinkin

as far as i know you can't turn off fuel or for that matter even adjust fueling on a per cylinder basis. i have never seen that in efi software. for any model year.

Common Rail means that, a common rail.

The injectors cannot be controlled one at a time unless you have a TECH II.

:eek6:

With a Tech II you can selectively shut down cylinders by turning off the injectors.

agreed, isn't that feature a diagnosis tool only, you can't and shouldn't drive with injectors shut off.

diag only. could you imagine the rocket scientist blowing motors by having 4 injectors shut off on the highway if they could.
