And, when I change transmission fluid, i always leave it at least a quart low, then, take it out and warm it up real good, You will be surprised how much that stuff will expand at operating temps. Then, if it needs more I`ll top it off.
I figure it is easier to add some than to have to try and drain out a half of a quart.
it is nice now on these newer rigs, some of them have a cold and a hot mark.

Next time you drop the pan do yourself a favor and put a drain plug in it. There is already a spot for it.
