Some customers may comment on the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) being illuminated and an Engine Power is Reduced message being displayed.

The technician may observe DTC P0101 set as current or in history.

<A href="http://gsi.xw.gm.com/si/showDoc.do?docSyskey=2380784&releaseDate=2010-01-07&name=Snow+or+Ice+Ingestion+into+Air+Cleaner+Element%2C+Malfunction+Indicator+Lamp+%28MIL%29+Illuminated%2C+Engine+Power+is+Reduced+Message+Displayed%2C+DTC+P0101+Set+%28#ss2-2380784">Cause

This condition may be caused by snow being ingested into the air cleaner housing and accumulating in the air cleaner element, resulting in restricted airflow into the engine.

Important: If the vehicle is driven in a snow storm before installing the winter cover and the customer chooses to resolve the issue, they must follow this procedure using the following steps:

  1. <LI type=1>Remove ANY ice or snow that may have accumulated in the air intake duct, BEFORE REPLACING the air cleaner element.

<LI type=1>INSTALL the winter cover BEFORE continuing to drive the truck.

<LI type=1>Turn OFF the ignition, and all electrical accessories and components.

<LI type=1>Remove the key from the vehicle, THEN open and close the door.
  2. WAIT for 2 minutes to allow the engine control module (ECM) to power down. This can be verified by watching for the instrument panel cluster (IPC) gage needles to drop slightly.

They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition.
