Starter heat shield problem exhaust stud or bolt?

I did the exact same thing. Plenty of head scratching before I figured out that I was missing the target.

    93 IP?

I read somewhere, and I think it was in a military repair manual (although I can not find it again), that the 6.5 needs 100 rpm to fire cold and 150 rpm to fire hot. The question remains...What is your cranking rpm?

    93 IP?

100% this. Been there done that. New starter will fix it.

    1998 6.5 Not Starting.

On the 98, there is no fuse in the glow plug position in the under hood fuse block. I would check each side of the glow plug relay for juice first. The glow plug relay is up against the fire wall. The drivers side pole should be hot all the time. The passenger side side pole should be hot...

decoding help please on a 6.2

The pumps were the same but if I recall correctly the pick up tubes were different. I dunno. It all worked out. If anyone wants a humvee oil pump, I have one in the shop somewhere. I want to encourage the original poster to assess the engine before dropping it in to a truck. The gov...

decoding help please on a 6.2

I'm a bit foggy about it, but something was not working out somewhere between the different oil pans and the different oil pumps. Might have been trying to use humvee oil pump and a civi pan. Can't remember the deal. I wound up with a pump and pan from a '98 C2500 and everything was fine in...

decoding help please on a 6.2

Ahh yes! The high volume oil pump is a critical part of this equation. I would add that the high volume oil pump won't fit the humvee oil pan without some modification, but that's okay because I don't think the humvee pan will work in your civi truck anyway. What is this engine going in to...

decoding help please on a 6.2

In this military engine, it is machined with the oil squirters. Only cyl 7 and 8 are actually squirting as it sits now. You will need different crank bearings to turn on the squirt on the other cylinders. I might be wrong but I think this is correct. Can someone confirm this? It's been a...

Looks like a decked out P400.

6.2 Diesel rough idle and misfire

I might double check the install on the new lift pump. The rod that runs on the cam sometimes slips down before you get the pump bolted up leaving you with a defunct lift pump.

    Possible optimizer, whats it worth?

Seems to me the diamond is just about under the pump. Take a flashlight for sure. The casting numbers above the bell housing are very hard to read with the motor in the truck.

    Possible optimizer, whats it worth?

    I believe Optimiser date codes include the day the month and the year but the year is a letter code. Year letter codes are: H = 2001 J = 2002 K = 2003 L = 2004 M = 2005 N = 2006 P = 2007 R = 2008 1 16 M = Jan 16 2005 If the casting number is in a different format, it's just an old...

    What's this engine?

The new P400 might have a girdle but the Optimizer (what we are looking at) does not. I would not touch this thing with a 10 ft pole. You can get the legit no question about it real deal engine for about the same price from a reputable outfit. Why dick around with having to guess where it...

    What's this engine?

Just realized I was looking at the wrong end of the valley in his picture. The area where the boss would be is not pictured. See...I told you I could be wrong! I'm still skeptical though. I'll try to get some better shots of the real deal one that I have on my stand this weekend.

    What's this engine?

What's with the chinese looking symbols written in green marker in the valley? Look at bobbiemartin's pictures and you will see a boss with a plug in it in the valley near the rear on the driver's side (maybe feeds center mount turbo?). It's not there on this engine. Personally, I think it's...
