For me it had always been tents until about two weeks ago. Rented a KZ 272BH and went to the Grand Canyon. Family loved it. If I hadn't ended up buying a truck on the way up there I probably would have been able to talk the wife into buying the trailer when we got back.
I had a set on my 1994 Suburban. After 93k miles it still fired up like the day the engine was built. I intend to see if I can get some for my 7.3 Power Stroke.
ETA: Actually, just did a little reading and it looks like I already have gears!
It was fun while it lasted. But I don't think I am going to miss it too much. One of the things that really irked me about it the last few months was that the window switch in the front passenger door needed to be replaced. I checked several aftermarket sources (LMC etc) and never found one...
Steve,
I was babying it the almost the entire way with the trailer. The only times I came close to "mashing it" was merging into traffic. As far as temps go, my coolant temp only got close to 210 once. The post 97 cooling mods did what they were supposed to do. The only issue I had with...
I had started on B100 but by the time we got to Lubbock I had already refueled with petroleum Diesel so we were running maybe 12% tops at that point.
As a side note I was shocked yesterday when I stopped at a Flying J truck stop and found they were selling B15. I had thought those places only...
Thank you all for your input and support!
The family and I got back from the trip about 6:30 local time last night.
I got very lucky. I bought the Excursion under about the worst possible conditions but seem to have lucked out. Other than some cracked plastic trim and a torn coupler on the...
Well of course, everything breaks. But he was thoroughly disgusted with his truck. And there's not a lot of nice 6.5 Suburbans for sale in Clovis NM today. Not a lot of Duramax Suburbans either. So it was either scrap the vacation or scrap the truck. I'm sure he was thankful to have the...
That's for sure. Continuing the trip with the Sub wasn't an option. It was either forget it and limp home, or buy a truck and continue. If he'd had a crystal ball, I'm sure he'd have replaced the truck 6 months ago, rather than dump the several thousand $$ into it that he just did.
The...
Hey, that last post was actually Jeff, logging in from the KOA. Now it's Kevin again.
He replaced the overflow tank and straight-piped any possible exhaust restrictions. (nudge-nudge, wink-wink) EGT was good when running without the trailer before the stop at the exhaust shop. After the...
quick notes b4 I lose my laptop power (at campground) Did 2.25 cross over Thursday at local muffler shop. They said the old definitely was restricted. Aftermarket big honkin gauze type conical filter.
Wow, thanks for all the great responses! There are a bunch of diesel performance shops in Lubbock, plus a Chevy dealer with a great reputation, so hopefully whatever he needs, he can get it there in the morning. I'm sure he'll thoroughly inspect the pyro wiring as soon as the sun is up...
Thanks, Buddy! The stock chip is here, but if necessary I can FedEx it to him.
Is the thermocouple an Autometer-only item, or can it be sourced more easily?
Edit: Y'all type fast!
Definitely only has light smoke, so I'm hoping it's the thermocouple, not an actual EGT problem...
Gauge has been intermittently bouncy, so hoping these high temp readings are a failure mode. It's an Autometer. He'll try to get a new thermocouple tomorrow too.
Typical readings recently, non-towing:
200-300 at idle
400 at cruise
600 when hot-dogging
He patched the overflow tank with...
Hey y'all, this is Jeff's brother-in-law Kevin.
Jeff & family are having some serious problems on a road trip. Truck info is in his sig - BUT - he recently added an A-Team Turbo and removed his intercooler :skep:, but hasn't updated the sig yet. Truck has 4.10 gears and 265/16 tires. 94...
Hmmmmmmm......... Possibilities......... I am by no means an expert on these things but for what it is worth.
The loud and the black smoke have me thinking turbo related problems. If you have freaking major exhaust leak at the manifolds or in the cross over pipe that could make some noise and...
So the A Team Turbo is on and working great! So far I have been taking it easy and have not made more than seven pounds of boost yet. I figure I will run it through lots of heating and cooling cycles before I kick it in the rear and see what it will do. I have noticed off the line at light...
One of the local stations did a piece on the price of Diesel a couple summers ago when all fuel prices were through the roof. They said a big part of the problem (at least in the Houston area) was that when gas prices went up people bought less. So we sort of had a gasoline surplus but prices...
It's not a big trailer, only 7500lb GVWR. Empty it's only 4600lbs.
So I have a filter kit sitting in the back of the truck now. After I finish seasoning my A Team Turbo I will swap the filter out and assess the fluid. The truck has the trailering set up with the auxiliarly cooler and as far...
