definently put a rag in there so you dont scrape the blades. Also 2 flat heads works good, use one to pry the ring up and the other to pop it out

IIRC the ring is held in by a ring type clamp. Some people claim improvements in airflow and lower intake temps. Whats behind the ring is an anti surge groove that helps protect against compressor surge and in some cases can widen the usable portions of the compressor map

haha yeah I think so! It looks like a silencer ring, when its removed it lets the air flow better and really lets the turbo sing. We removed it on a HX35 on a 12 valve and it sounded like a semi :)
