I have a 2000 Chevy K2500 4x4 6.5 TD with 197k miles and when I start it up after it sits for a day or more, the speedometer jumps up to about 20 mph, up and down for a few seconds. Then it behaves normally. Is this something to be concerned about? It works well (GPS verified) when driving. This...
Thanks warwagon, this makes sense. I suppose I was experiencing this with cold hard starts before I replaced glow plugs. I had four bad ones and it would sound like it was ready to catch but just couldn't- like some of the cylinders were operable and others still too cold.
How do you guys know that a specific number of glow plugs aren't working? The original poster says "one or two cylinders seem to be getting little or no heat and smoke pretty good for 10-15 seconds when cold. Another one only takes a couples seconds to smooth out"
How does he know that?
Okay I got the four crossover bolts off, the sucker let loose a half-gallon of coolant, I put in two thermostats, put the cover back on. Right away, the in-dash temp gauge appears to show a higher reading than before. Didn't replace the lost coolant yet.
Do I need to replace either of the CTS...
Oh I've never measured blowby nor do I think I want to. Baby steps for me. I suppose I can just replace the CDR, clean it up, and see if it comes back? Or am I killing things with it leaking in its current condition.
Reviving a bit of an old thread here...
I have a leaking turbo from near the same spot, not exactly. Here are a couple pics, both from underneath (where the leak is), with the passenger wheel well pulled off (was doing GPs when I noticed this).
Looking from the front-ish underside towards the...
I just cannot get the bottom driver's side bolt. It's stuck. I lost a socket down underneath the PMD, still trying to figure out how to get it out.
Can I pull off the big hose coming into the crossover without losing too much coolant? Will the crossover have a lot of coolant in it too?
I bought a turbo boost bolt from pmdcable.com but I don't know what kind of gauge to get. One that goes from zero to 35 psi or 30 In Hg/20PSI or 2.5 kg/cm2 or...? totally confused.
Can someone look at this page and tell me the right type of measurement to get...
I'm guessing this silver housing with (in my case) the pink x is the water pump? Or is that called the coolant crossover? And the four bolts are on the back side, facing the cab, right? The bottom two bolts look kind of hard to reach.
Yes, I got the picture to come up. Thank you very much for taking the time to help me. I will report back when I get to the job, maybe tomorrow, maybe the weekend.
Okay with the cover off, what's the thermostat? The "Part Locations" thread doesn't have a picture of that, as far as I can tell. Thanks so much for helping this newbie. I'm enjoying learning how to fix my truck.
I guess this code has something to do with a/the thermostat. I get the code about a week after clearing it. The dashboard thermostat looks fine, i.e. it moves a bit off the left side under appropriate loads.
What's the best way to diagnose and repair so this code goes away? Or should I just do...
Thanks fermanator. With the help of a particularly bright sales guy at Kragen, we were able to deduce that the 2001+ silverado diesel alternator would fit, which looks just like the AD-244 you mention. We could not find anything in their parts computer for the 2000 diesel 2500 above 100 amps...
Okay on Autozone, I found one locally. PN DLG1468-16-4. Delco Remy 140 amp ext fan
Is it external or internal fan? I could guess internal. Please let me know guys, thanks.
I believe the Thursday shop tested the batteries and said they were okay. They are about six months old also. I think the over-taxing came from having to charge my camper batteries too much.
Prior to these problems, the tach always appeared dead-on.
Truck is a 2000 K2500. I am on a road trip and concerned about charging.
On Wednesday morning, it was 15 degrees and the engine took four separate crank attempts to finally fire up so I'm sure the truck batteries were quite low. Having to charge four batteries (two in the truck, two in a camper...
Thank you very much Frank, when I flip the switch from defrost to any other setting the cycling ceases. I'll make the vents the default position of the switch from now on. But is this a defect like fermanator says or completely benign?
In June of this year, I had an AC compressor lock up on me. I got it replaced while on a trip. Then about a month ago, the new one died on me, again on a trip, I got it replaced under warranty from Kragen. But I'm not sure if it should run like this, with the frequent stops and starts...
