Hi everyone,
Thank you for your responses so far.
So, have dropped the tank, which is actually in quite good condition, but theres clearly been contamination and/or diesel bug. A tank full of orange/red cloudy diesel. So tank was completely cleaned out on your advice, surprisingly internally...
Thanks. Absolutely, I've already got a filter housing ready to install as of this morning. It's a big unit with a sediment/water trap too. Also a hand primer, so I can prime up to that point and that feeds the lift pump. Will hopefully prevent any further sediment based failings. New lift pump...
A big thank you to all for responding and apologies for my delay in getting back to you. Was a very busy week at work and spent the weekend trying to get the RV started with no luck.
In the recent past, I have replaced the PMD and relocated it to near the front grill and replaced the fuel lift...
So, I am based in the UK where I own an imported 97 Winnebago Brave. It was parked up a long time until recently, when I got her running again and everything seemed good.
I had done a full oil and filter service last year as well as replaced the lift pump, and since then had driven around 500...
As a fairly competant mechanic, id like to think theres no job I couldn't do on the engine. In terms of auto transmissions, I have limited experience. But having watched a couple of strip downs and rebuilds on YouTube, theres nothing there i'd struggle with. Fortunately, I've plenty of...
Right, success finally.
I think the additive used has done the trick. I have a feeling the internal seals had hardened whilst sitting, or a valve had stuck. Which would explain the limp mode but no electrical faults. The additive has rectified this.
I put it in to the transmission last Saturday...
Thanks. I'll give that a shot next weekend when I can get it into the workshop.
In the UK, all vehicles must pass an annual vehicle inspection each year to be allowed use on the road. Unfortunately, the vehicle hasn't had a test in 6 years, so I'm limited to the confines of the yard it's...
The speedo does work, from memory that figure does increase when driving. Lower than the input speed sensors, but does graph as it should with acceleration and deceleration.
I've finally had a chance to plug the Tech 2 in, but can't see any other DTCs.
So, I had a little play with the vehicle and the transmission. Tech 2, shows me in gear 1 for D and R. In a straight line accelerating, the engine just continues to increase revs and does not change up. If I come off...
So little update. I was looking at all the clone tech 2 scanners, and they were coming in at around the £300 mark, with 2 week shipping wait from China.
I managed to find a UK supplier selling a genuine Tech 2, for £360. So have just ordered that. Hopefully be with me Wednesday, can then...
Thanks everyone so far. Learnt more in 3 days from you guys, than I had in months of researching for myself.
Came across this forum by chance and the info has been top notch so far.
Biggest challenge I'm going to have is the lack of knowledge in the UK, it means no-one will touch the...
Thanks. Some great info on the engine here.
Very few L65 engines in the UK as well, so the info is greatly appreciated. I'll definitely need to do the oil cooler hoses, since running the RV, I noticed one has started weeping, so will get that done ASAP.
I'll definitely grab one of those clone...
Right, I've been to the vehicle this morning. The Jaltest kit at my work doesn't have access to the engine and transmission type for truck, so I can't get decent live data from it.
I'm going to try something else later on.
I managed to get the following photos of the turbo, injection pump and...
Thanks.
It certainly seems like a bit of a mix. I suppose for the P chassis like mine, it was registered by Winnebago in 1997, but the chassis was built in June 96. Years ago, I had a ford around this age, had a similar problem, where multiple parts were used from new spec and old. Can be a...
I'm used to working on buses, over here there are multiple control modules. Usually because the companies building the vehicles, have a different brand engine, transmission and even exhaust systems, all have their own modules. Real pain when you're trying to solve problems that overlap between...
Big thanks to everyone for the replies.
In all fairness, I was using a cheap Bluetooth code reader, but I can plug in with another decent bit of kit at work tomorrow. I did check that both my speed sensors were putting out readings whilst moving.
I'll grab this in the morning when I'm back...
Morning all.
I recently bought an imported Winnebago RV in the UK. It's a 97 model on a 1996 P30 chassis. There are so few here and knowledge is very limited, my plan is to get it back working and on the road, before moving in with the family and travelling full time around Europe.
I've got a...
