A 25 RPM differential is not very much of a difference. That is the difference between the slow and fast wheel. That is 2.5 seconds per revolution. I bet it's going to lock up sooner than you think while one wheel is free spinning.
GOOD NEWS ! ! !
Finally got the driveshaft back from the balance shop this morning. Replaced both output shaft T-Case seals, installed 2 new U-Joints and re-installed the drive shaft assembly.
I am happy to report that the truck now runs smooth as silk. I have not been able to talk to the...
This is my understanding as well.

This truck is a 2004 4WD Silverado 2500HD with the 6.0 L V8 and the 2-speed electric-shift transfer case. It now has a little over 100K miles.
My mechanic sent the complete rear...
Good morning guys! I am having a problem that I hope the truck gurus here can help me solve.
I recently purchased a 2004 Silverado 2500HD 6.0L 4WD extended cab truck with 99,000 miles on the odometer, to replace our older 2002 plow truck that is finally worn out.
Sadly, I didn't notice a sever...
UPDATE -
Truck is running OK most of the time now. But once in a while loses power and the Check Engine Light come ON. A code check points to problem with Knock Sensor. When he clears all codes, truck runs fine again. Need to replace both knock sensors and while at it fix an intake manifold...
Ended up having our repair shop replace both the upstream and downstream O2 sensors on the passenger side. The wire on the downstream sensor broke off when touched. So that one had to be replaced as well. While they were at it, I had them fix a T-Case leak and replaced all 4 prop-shaft U-joints...
Tried to remove bad O2 sensor. Stripped the hex. Need to find someone with a hoist and a torch to get better access to the bad sensor. Making appointment with mechanic. Can't get to it 'till Monday or Tuesday. :bigtears:
At least he is still able to make some money plowing with the bad O2...
Well, Folks! - Looks like we are on the right track to success.
I just got a text message from my son where he said that he unplugged the offending O2 sensor and wrapped both connectors in a plastic baggie. He cleared all codes and drove the truck.
His comment is, "Runs Great!"
The only codes...
OK. We will try that. I may be a couple of days before we can get to it, since he is in the middle of a move.
The only torch we have available is a propane torch. Don't know how well it will work, but worth a try.
Thanks.
Best regards.
I've been super busy and haven't had much time to check in here.
Thank you all for the responses.
Air filter is new and dry.
I asked my son about the fuel gauge not working and he said that it has not worked for a few months and the truck ran fine 'till about 3 weeks ago.
The problem comes...
Good afternoon and Happy New Year to ALL.
I am having a major problem with my son's snowplow truck and I hope that someone here can help us diagnose and fix it.
The truck is a 2002 Silverado 2500HD 4WD with the 6.0L engine and auto trans. It has approximately 185,000 miles.
He bought this...
I believe you guys. I would do it myself if I had some place warm to do it. But outside temps here have been hovering between +10*F and -10*F with winds between 10 and 35 mph. We've getting warnings from the US Weather Service of wind chill down around -15* to -35*F.
This really pisses me off...
I printed the above posts and gave it to my mechanic to read.
But he was frightened off from doing the work on Thursday by his buddy, who claims to be a GM Tech, who told him that glow plugs very often breaks off and require drilling them out. I told him that drilling them out is the least of...
Not a bad idea. i'm going to check with the guys that work on our snowplow trucks and see if they want to do it. They did tell me that they are not diesel mechanics, but this work should really be a no-brainer with the proper facilities.
I do have the GMC Service Manual and the instructions...
Can someone find out for me what the GM Flat Rate hours would be for replacing Glow Plugs #2 and #4? - Looks like I'm going to have to take it to my GMC dealer and have then do the work. I just don't have the facilities to do the work myself and it's too damned cold to do it out in my driveway...
Well, I have now joined the failed #4 glow plug club, along with #2 glow plug as well. :WTF:
Back in June '11 my #7 glow plug failed. I was jammed with work trying to bid on a big job with the state, so I had to let my GMC dealer replace the failed glow plug to the tune of $169.24 and two dozen...
