Detroit Diesel 638 Engine Flywheel Cover

I am sure you figured this out by now but i just saw this. Isn't that just a GM truck bell housing with the motor mounts on the rear? You might have to make a plate for the front but i would start with a late 90's truck flywheel cover. I am 90% sure it will bolt right on. Your 638 Detroit is...

detroit Diesel 638 Engine swapped 1985 chevy K10 custom Deluxe

Yes. It's a preprogrammed ecm. I believe that is the reason these engines were not more popular. That and the fact they sometimes have overheating issues. I hope to be able to deal with this. Also there just aren't many in North America. Some were used in marine applications. Many of these...

detroit Diesel 638 Engine swapped 1985 chevy K10 custom Deluxe

I am putting one of these VM Motori 638 engines in a 1973 F-250 4x4. How did everything go when you got the clutch issues sorted out? Looks great! Was this one of the UPS re-power engines you used? with the chev bellhousing adapter so it bolted right up to the factory 4 speed in your chev...

    6.5 to vm638

Hello Humps I have several of these 638 engines and am trying to get one of them running. I hate to pester you but I see you say to Mhia that you have wiring diagrams. My engines were all stripped out of UPS trucks back in 2000 or so and stripped is the operative word. Rad hoses slashed, wires...
