Thanks Will,
Since i've been using ATF as a fuel additive for a couple years for my ailing 4911 i know it won't hurt anything. Maybe the environment but there isn't a smog check on the old 1993 so i really don't care about that. Missy Good Wench gave me the ATF advice years ago, and 2 cycle...
Well i already have the GEP gears & chain, well and the GEP heads too off that engine so i might as well change the gears while i'm there. Bobby Martin got the short block a few years ago. I've still got it's brother (i got two military GEP take outs when i got them) and i've considered just...
It's been so long since I've done any work on my 6.5 that i forgot about testing the "clicks" on the IP, THANKS! On the ATF, with my worn out 4911 currently the only way it will start is if i dump a quart of ATF and a quart of 30w oil in the fuel when i fuel up. I'll pre-lube it with something...
LOL Oh yea, finding something you've misplaced before you go buy another is great! My hobby is restoring/modernizing 50's and 60's cars/trucks so i have an assortment of parts stashed in my shop loft. Stuff for Camaro's, GTO's, Monte Carlo's, 57 Chevy's...etc
Don
Thanks!
I thought it would work with my DB-2 pump, i may swap the gears while i'm in there. The old beast has 230,000 miles on the original engine.

Hi guys,
When i change my injection pump i'd like to also do the timing chain & Gears. I have a nearly new set off a 2006 GEP, would that work on my '93 block? (i think it's a 599 block)
Thanks
Don
Thanks Will!!
I hadn't thought of the atf for a little pre-lube, great idea! I've had it for several years, i "lost" it but recently ran upon it while looking for something else in my storage loft.

Hi ya'll,
I mainly just lurk on most of the forums, but i have a question for the experts on IP's. Currently running a '93 Chevy 3500 with the 6.5, IP is now a well worn 4911 IP. Has the typical hot start issue, and in general seems to be fairly gutless when it warms up. I have a second IP i...
Robin,
I'm in the same boat with the heat, anything above 85F and i'm just toast in a matter of minutes. :-( My dually won't fit in my shop door either, it will fit into the storage building i built, but the thing is metal and hot as h*ll unless it's winter. Take it slow and easy, you are a...
Glad to hear Missy is back with us again!!! I can relate to the health issues putting a hold on a lot of things, my Heart Attacks and surgeries late last year made me take a 4 month "vacation". Please take it easy and work back up to it and you'll be motivating before you know it!!

Don't waste your time with Diesel "careless" parts. I had two bad experiences with them and injectors, never again. They show you Bosch injectors, ship you chinese. I returned them for the right ones, they sent me another set of chinese. Then would not refund my $$.

When i drilled & Tapped my manifold i didn't have to remove the inner fender, although i did remove the RF tire. What i did was take several of the inner fender bolts out, and "flex" it up out of the way to drill & tap. Easier than i thought it was going to be.

I've pulled 15k dual and triple axle with my '93 dually using a gooseneck, i can't say it was pleasant in traffic but the truck handled it just fine in the 95F Atlanta heat with the A/C on max. I'm running a GM8, homebuilt turbomaster set at 12psi, single 180 'stat and straight pipe exhaust...
I wouldn't shy away from an engine that's 2007 and up, the AM General castings after approx 2001 were thicker and more robust than previously. I've had several 2006-07-08 engines apart and several of the older ones too down to the 599 early 6.5 castings. I'm in process of getting all my parts...
I've got 3 of these trucks, and my brakes are very different on each. lol
The '93 5.7 1500's brakes suck, rears have been a big PIA. The '93 6.5TD dually has pretty good brakes, not great but pretty good. The '97 5.7 Vortec truck has really good brakes.

Humm your saying that the actuator has a vacumn line to it? The '93 is totally mechanical with a spring in a "tuna" can, no vacumn at all involved. On my '93 i installed a boost guage and modified the original actuator to create a home made TM. The rod doesn't move much open/closed on those. I...
