What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

I meant to search here. I searched Google instead. I'm pretty sure I posted the starter bolt torque specs here, earlier this year or last year sometime...

Surgery to a powermaster starter - how to get the gesrs out!?

After my experience with the GM starters, I am not 100% sold on over torqueing being the issue. I never checked to seevwhat torque was used though

Sveins 1999 6.5 Suburban that´s getting "everything I ever wanted" eventually

There is a post on here someplace about cracking castings while replacing the starter on the 98 Suburban. I never did figure out the cause. I think I went through 3 starters before I was successful.

    1996 K1500 6.5 diesel Suburban No start

That is for the brace to block bolt M8x1.25 - I believe. Got the starter swapped last night. I can see where having the torque specs for all the hardware including the little stud on the starter would be very handy. Hands do not fit anywhere and using long handle stuff gives a lot of leverage...

    1996 K1500 6.5 diesel Suburban No start

Apparently I was wrong on the starter bolt torque and I thought the brace bolt was about 25'lbs or so Starter: thru-bolts are 40 ft. lbs. 54Nm bracket bolts/nuts 30 ft. lbs. 41Nm

    1996 K1500 6.5 diesel Suburban No start

Load tested good. I didn't bring everything the first trip - foolish move there. I thought I would at least be able to jump the solenoid and get some action. Nothing when the solenoid was jumped. Cables and everything ohmed out to the starter. Heading back with the rest of the tools and the...

    I'm back with a keeper. .

Bolt everything up, torque the bolts and don't worry about the gap. I can not really tell what kind of angle you have going on. But if you used GM starter bolts, The starter should be pretty well in place with those. I have bolted starters on and then installed the brace - bit I have found it...

Cracked the head on the starter - over torqued?

Thanks MIke. I've never encountered a shim on any of these vehicles. I'm befuddled as hell. I'm going to borrow a torque wrench for the next one. If my torque wrench crapped out maybe it is way over torqueing the bolts. But I tightened with the same 3/8 long handle Snap on ratchet I did for...
