OK I’ll be taking on the removal of the knockouts for the upper control arms on the ‘99 this weekend. I also have new Moog HD bolts and cam washers to install. I will be using the OEM Knockout Tool to remove them, but I’ve been told by our local mechanic in Montana that the tool doesn’t always...
Update: Discussed the feint charge light and the sporadic no-start with my local mechanic on our loop road (he’s very good and wants to hire me when I retire, but I will only work on my cars). He said the no-start pointed towards issue with the starter. So I ordered new Denso Starter and...
Geez you are going through a lot.
Yes the neighbor woman was a piece of work. California law on vicious dogs requires euthanasia, thus the dog was moved to boarding in Vegas. They report that Buddy is a happy dog and doing fine, but they don’t like to hold them in boarding for so long. Wife was...
Although we have not tested it off-road, we’ve hit enough bumps and pot holes that I can say the clunking/rattling noise is gone.
We are driving north to Montana, but first picking up a rescue English Springer in Vegas and transporting him to a Springer Rescue in Couer d’Alene, Idaho where he...
During my lunch today I replaced the front sway bar bushings on our 2014 4Runner. Took me about 20 minutes. Seems like the noise I was seeking to address is gone, but I will wait for a full off-road test to confirm.
I was experiencing rattling noise over bumps and potholes on the driver’s side...
Next on the 2014 4Runner is to replace the front sway bar bushings after detecting movement while I was under there doing and oil change. Mevotech bushings should arrive today. Hoping this eliminates the noise I was hearing while off-roading and hitting pot holes.
Next on my list for the ‘99 is to remove the knockouts from the upper control arm mounts, install new Moog HD cam bolts and cam washers, and take it in for alignment to address the caster setting.
Back in December, lawn tractor shot a rock through the passenger side quarter panel window on my ‘99 Suburban. Took it in to get it replaced, but they got the wrong glass. Told them I was not accepting it, but it needs to stay in as it is parked outside and we were leaving the next day for...
After experiencing 3 no-starts the past couple weeks, all of which were cured by jiggling or moving the shifter, I replaced the neutral safety switch today at 405.2K miles. Most of the DIY videos showed rust belt trucks with guys using torches to get the old switch off. Sorry, but ours is a...
Well there’s your source of heat and your answer. Seems like these time keeper gears were not compatible with your timing cover or they were not installed properly.
Looks like the dog bone heated up on the side it broke. Regardless, this is not a good thing. Never had a timing change break and they aren’t hard to change.
I undo and drop/lower the front diff until you have enough clearance to pry the diff towards the passenger side which gives the clearance to remove the bolt. Reverse the bolt direction when you reinstall.
Well the pricing on the LMC plastic replica dash came in at $899 plus $100 for shipping. That’s about $400 more than I expected. This pushes it to close enough to the aluminum off-road dash that it’s still in the running...
Front left caster is -0.4 and the spec range is 2.0 to 4.0. Tech says the bolt is stripped and not moving the washer. So new bolts are on order. Also may have to punch the knock-outs.
They said it would likely pull to the left, but it does not. It actually drives quite nice.
