6.2/6.5 are externally balanced engines. The harmonic balancer and flywheel both have large balance pads and flex plates have a large chunk of steel welded to them for balance. One thing I didn't mention before, there was a light duty flywheel that was used in front of the early light duty...
Any idea what year transmission you have found? I can't remember much in the way of differences in brake pedals and switch brackets can be modified. The pedals were basically the same for a lot of years, but there could be some minor differences that could be corrected by drilling or welding.
I run with a state trooper and lets just say he likes easy tickets. Why not just stack air cleaners under the hood if you like noise, it will give you a little more power too. I always liked the glass packs worked on my old 6.2 blazer and they were small so I didn't bang them up on the rocks.
You really need to get under the truck and have a good look. Look for traces of dried antifreeze deposits. Could be water pump leaking and wind blowing the coolant to the rear where it drips, or could be coming from top of engine and dripping down.
Make sure to install an egt gauge with the probe in the exhaust manifold. Keep egts below 1100 degrees to prevent cracking of the pistons and don't advance timing too much. You will need to use timing cover and timing set from 6.5 so that there is a pickup for the reluctor ring. You will also...
Penninsular diesel used to offer a v belt high flow water pump also. I would also consider arp head studs as a better option than the factory head bolts.
Your next ticket could be for modified exhaust that is too loud...... don't ask me how I know about this. Latest thing around here is ticketing turbo trucks with straight pipes and more is coming.
Do your best to find a bellhousing from a 6.2, if you use a gas bell housing, you will have to clearance it to clear the starter nose. You might try LMC truck for the clutch boot. Manual linkage from a 82-84 would be the easiest to make work. To bad I didn't see this earlier, I think I threw...
I had a banks tach that was basically an isspro. It required gluing two magnets on the harmonic balancer 180 degrees apart and then it had a sensor that would pick up the magnetic pulse. This was a very good tach, except that magnets would come off on occasion and they were very strong little...
4.56 gears are great for getting a heavy load moving, but they really are the wrong gears for a 6.2 that spends any time on the pavement. 2800 rpms is out of the usable power range for a 6.2. I have turboed some one ton 6.2's with turbo 400's and 4.56 gears and as soon as the turbo was on, I...
I am giving you the better info. I have owned lots of 6.2's with my first one being a 1983 that I bought in 85. I was one of the pioneers to put a 6.5 in place of a 6.2 in 1994 as well as swap a nvg 4500 behind a 6.2 and then behind a 6.5. The list goes on and on, I have forgot more about 6.2's...
Most common cracks are between valves and don't lead to combustion leaks. If the engine was allowed to get real hot, check heads carefully for other cracks. Usually they are easy to see. 6.2 and 6.5 heads are interchangeable with some minor changes. 6.5 heads have a different angle that the...
