Suddenly found myself with some vacation days again. Sun was shining, and I just couldn't´t resist doing some work on my Suburban!
Fixed some smaller and bigger issues that´s been bothering me:
-Cleaned out the ac blower motor hoping it would cool me down more. It didn't. I really need a gas...
Thanks! :) The rest of the frame is actually quite good, it has been treated with tectyl, so it´s actually quite nice. I am however planning on spraying on some fluid film wherever I can once I have the dodgy part welded! I´ve heard so much positive about fluid film, and a kit isn´t really...
Yes, wasnt happy when I found that rust! Gotta Get it fixed asap before it gets Even worse!
I am quite happy with my anzos. They Are not completely Even, but not as bad as you describe...and they made a world of difference from my old ones!
Long time since the last post now! Been a lot of work, and Aldo the truck has Been running smooothely!
Did an oil change today on 253500kms. Man, what a PITA to get that oil filter off! Had to run to a nearby store and buy more tools, but got it all done!
Something good came out of buying oil...
The dome light switch stopped working on my old 99 express van last summer, so I opened the switch and re-assembled it to fix it. It took a bit of patience to get it back together, but it´s absolutely doable to open and get it back together again. The headlight switch it self is just turning...
Yes, that would probably have been the wisest move. I am thinking that I might have to find an alternative solution though. If I were able to extend the inlet with a pipe inside the tank, I could maybe at least minimize my minimum fuel level for safe operation. Or, maybe, If I´m clever, I could...
Finally - tonight was a success!
Many of you have come with a lot of good advices for me on my journey of converting my Suburban to run on WVO, and I would like to say a big thank you to you all! Tonight, it finally worked! :D
It turns out, my big hesitation-stumbeling-stalling issue came from...
Tested a total of 6 thermostats today; the original gm ones, the new stants, and at last the "acdelcos". All I had was a kitchen thermometer, so it wasn't´t really scientific, but at least it gave a good indicator.
Both the original gm and the stants opened between 85 and 90 degrees C. Thats...
Got some answers about the reality today! I visited a friend who works with ir thermo photographing, and had him shoot a picture of my engine valley:
I also shot a pic of my temp gauges at the same time as he was doing the photos to compare:
Im afraid all the temps here are in C, but it works...
One thing is the idle temperature, but it doesn't´t seem to warm up very well while driving either, which I´m a bit disappointed about. Going to a friend now to get some ir thermography photos of the engine when hot to see what the actual temps is! :)
I have a 200micron screen filter before the...
@NVW , I bet you do!! One day...I dream. And I´m not complaining - I get to borrow a shop with a lift all the time, but sometimes it´s easier and quicker to put on the thermal suit and go out there! ;)
Last Sunday, I finally had the time, weather, and courage to have a go at changing the thermostats. Had to fiddle a bit to open the thermostat housing, but once it was done, it was an easy swap. While I was at it, I changed both the coolant temp sensors. Hard to judge the dash gauge, but the...
Thanks Hink, it is indeed very helpful to know that others are using this solution!
At the moment I am running with the walbro only, and I guess some testing back and forth is in order before I settle on a solution.
My fuel pressure readings are very bouncy - which I believe is due to my...
It seems to be many schools of what is the best pressure at IP. :)
I´ve always been happy with a stock setup as far as what the car could do for me, so I don´t really want to alter it. But I would like to maintain a positive pressure at the IP at all times to be gently with it. Especially since...
I couldn't resist, so I went out and tried plumbing it in. At idle, it would be stable at 13ish psi, and during driving it would be between 9 and 13. When I let go of the pedal, I could sometimes see it peak at 14. The walbro stayed dead steady at 4,8psi. That seems like pretty good readings to me?
Ive been seeing even lower fuel pressures after I installed my new walbro frb-5 pumps. @Hink mentioned that he is running two lift pumps in series in his wvo system. I am contemplating plumbing one of my acdelco ep1000 pumps in after the walbro and the first fuel filter, so it´s closer to the...
And it´s a bummer! The fittings (that I tested towards the original hose barb that came with the walbro when I was in the shop) did of course not fit the walbro, so there was that. At least I got the clear hosing installed between the IP and the return line, and there is no signs of air on the...
