When everything just shuts off the ignition switch would be my first suspect... You did get hubby to remove, clean, replace ALL the grounds and battery connections didn't you? Always do the Free Stuff first :smile5:

A PMD is always an FSD, but an FSD is not always a PMD. I hope that clears it up for you J...
FSD = Fuel Solenoid Driver
PMD = Pump Mounted Driver or, in other words, an FSD that is mounted to the injection pump.
Remove the negative battery cables.
Clean the negative battery cable connectors and battery terminals - Leave the wires off for now.
Trace out the grounds - One at a time - Remove, Clean, (optional dielectric grease - good idea), clean up the connection point, put them back nice & tight...

Until winter rolls in the ECM does a good job starting most of our trucks. But once Old Man Winter gets here it helps if you can extend the glow time a bit.

I'd look into replacing that harness now. Not sure what type of insulation they used on the stock harness, but most insulations don't like aeromatic cleaners. It dries them out and then they crack and fall off. If the stock stuff is teflon you might be OK though.
