About 20 years ago (OMG - 20 years, seems like last week!), while working in China, the prime mover for heavier cargo were these things they called tractors. They had 1 lung, flat head diesels. To start them the guys took a blow torch (also diesel powered) and heated up the head for a while and...
Made my living as an Electrical Engineer, so I will readily admit that my understanding of thermodynamics, while being better than rudimentary, is still a just a bit beyond the basics. It was one of the very few courses that I actually hated...
That being said: Even as an old retired guy I...
You just need to crack them open, NOT take them off. About 1 (maybe 2) flats worth of turning the flange nut is enough. Once fuel starts leaking out (not spraying out) you've turned it enough.
X2...
On any R&R I use the new gaskets to make a *cardboard box gasket set*. Just get some boxes, trace the gasket onto a box and punch out the holes. As you remove bolts put them into the correct hole in the box. Eliminates the WhereInTheWorldDidThisLongBoltComeFrom? syndrome. Been there -...
Actually, TRUE... That's THE reason they use them on the heavy aircraft.
I've read, and been told this same thing. Doesn't make sense to me. Since Nitrogen doesn't react to temp change like air does it seems to me that you would get worse fuel mileage with nitrogen. With air, as you drive your...
Cool pic... Should have kept the touks on so we'd know how cold it is though. At least we can see the snow through the windows.
For those of y'all down here in the South who haven't been *up there* - You should see how these Canadian guys dress in the summer!
Is that NAFTA beer Jim? Ya know -...
Might be your PMD.
But
Try taking the fuel cap off - Vacuum there could be starving fuel delivery.
Loss of dash insturments seems like it could be your ignition switch though, check for loose plugs under the dash. Same thing could indicate a ground problem too. You really need to remove them...
Remove the wires from the negative terminals on BOTH batteries. Trace each wire to where it's grounded. Remove it, clean the lug(s), clean the connection point. Put it back nice and snug.
OR
The wire from one positive to the other is bad. You could remove the jumper cable that you have going...
Nope - I've never even been in a mine.
BTW - If you send personal checks I'll have to hang onto the boxes till the checks clear.
Have a good one Rodd :)
The horrors!
PMD (now FSD, btw) just can't survive without a heat sink. See the transistors? They get HOT, and thus the heatsink.
You have a great set-up now with the FSD on a heatsink out of the engine compartment and your next new FSD should last a long, long time located there.
Good Luck!
Geezzz guys, I don't know...
Unless you figure all the damage is already done, I wouldn't run that engine again until I knew if it has oil pressure. I believe he would be better off spinning the oil pump up without running the engine and see if he can get any pressure. The bearings are probably...
