I am looking for a new proportioning valve but am having troubles finding one. No one in my area carries one. I wanted to replace mine to be able to rule that out for a break issue I'm having. I've already replaced master cylinder, pads, drum pads (not sure what their called), wheel cylinders...
haha, 3/4 ton it is. Not a bad truck, I've been replacing a lot of things over the past year or so. But I think k that's just due to age and previous owners not fixing things properly, haha my grandpa is the number 1 culprit there, he'll jerry rig anything to save himself $5.
By the time I saw your posts I had already told the guy to do it. Anyhow the truck doesn't do that awful shaking thing anymore. Ended up being the carrier bearing and 2 tires had broken belts. It was shaking so bad that when I stopped in the morning to get a soda, by the time I'd get to the job...
Well that sucks, haha. I don't have a shop press, and wouldn't know how to use it if I did. So looks like I'll be paying $200. I'll be happy to have the vibrations gone anyways. I think the vibrations already helped mess up the starter.
Oh and it is a 3/4 ton sub, rear wheel drive
My carrier bearing has about a 1/2" worth of play, and I'm told that's really bad. To clarify what the bearing is, it's the one in between the 2 sections of drive shaft from the transmission to the rear axle, I just learned this today haha. Anyways I guess that could explain the bad vibrations...
haha, my problem is I'm either busy or procastinating.
I got the belt swapped out and voila, it doesn't even screech with the wheel turned all the way or with the breaks all the way down, or both lol.
I did notice however, while under the truck, the bottom of the hydra booster has fluid on it...
I got a new belt from napa, one of the gates belts. I remember someone, i think aces posting something about it in a previous thread i had. I think he serp belt system would be ok, but I don't really want o go through all that for the belts, unless of course I keep having belt issues but since I...
I did the test with with the steering wheel all the way to one side and had my wife hit the brakes hard enough to make the squeal. The pulley on the power steering pump did slow up drastically. It was hard to indicate where the squeal was coming from though. Is it possible to have the the pulley...
I will try that out. Anyone know if the gear box could cause any of these problems? Mine had a leak to where it would have a pretty steady drip, but somehow it kinda fixed itself, it drips very slowly now. Also I make sure the power steering fluid stays topped off. I never changed the gear box...
OK thanks for the info. Now is there a way that I can tell for sure which component it is? If it means anything, the steering has been kind of funny lately. It's hard to explain what it's doing. I guess loose would be the best word I can think of right now.
Hey fellows, been awhile since I was around here last. Been pretty busy with work.
Anyhow, my last issue was the steering or gear box (I think thats what it was called, sits on the end of steering shaft) was leaking fluid. Now I have a kind of new thing going on and I'm wondering if it's...
Good thing I took it to the transmission shop haha. The guy looked at it and said there was a broken tranny bracket, the piece between the tranny and the drive train (cant remember what it was called, something about a U bolt) was almost gone, and to top it off, there was 4 bolts from the bell...
Well thanks for the replys, so I see I have the 700. I called a local transmission shop yesterday to see about a better quality torque converter. He told me I better bring it in so he can take a look at it to make sure it is the torque converter and not something else. So I'm going to do that...
I have an 84 Suburban, 3/4 ton, rear wheel drive, 6.2 motor. I'm pretty sure the torque converter is about to crap out. I called O'reillys to get a price on a replacement and they need to know which transmission I have. So is there a way to tell by looking at it? Mine has overdrive if that makes...
So I must be the most dumbest "do-it-yourself" mechanic.
The cooling system started leaking afew days ago right between the thermostat housing and crossover. I took off the housing today to see if the crossover piece was cracked (last one did that to me) and when I got it off I saw the problem...
Would a gas powered pressure washer be to much psi? I have one of those.
Oil cooler lines are a pain, I already switched the 2 and one is leaking now, and I'm pretty sure its shooting oil into the floor board (unless it's coming form somewhere else, can't really tell, doesn't squirt out when...
Does anyone know if the truck won't warm up over 150* on a day thats about 50*, does that mean the stats not opening? ( I drove about 45 mins on the highway to work and then another 45 home) Sorry if I'm being a worry wort, this is just new to me. My truck has never ran under 190* so when it...
