Anyone have a good source for the older DB2 shutdown solinoid and cold advance solinoids? I recently got a like new DB2 from a military hummer and of course it's 24v, i'd like to replace those solonoids with new 12v ones. Anyone have a good source for those?
Thanks
Don
Either of those will work fine with the 6.5TD, the 4911 from the '93 pumps a little more fuel in stock trim but the 6.2 IP can be turned up also. On these look for the "831" in the part number, like on the '93 DB2 831 4911. The 831 is the plunger specs - IIRC the 31 is .31 plungers. Some of the...
I always thought they were the same truck with a different appearance package on them. Last time i was looking at a new truck, i looked at both and eventually bought the GMC because i thought it looked better in the grill area. Now i own that GMC, and 2 Silverado's (2-1993's and 1-1997) and...
My '93 did the same thing when i first got it, (both the '92 & '93 mechanical IP and computer only runs the auto tranny). I replaced the shift solinoids, and the wiring harness internal & external, and tcc solinoid plus filter & fluid while i was there. After that mine was 100% ok, until about...
GM did put block drain plugs in most of the 6.5 blocks, BUT they located them behind the engine mounts so they are near impossible to be usefull. lol

If you use the '93 ip, wiring and accessories it will be easy to swap out. IIRC the balancer on the '94 is a little different & the timing cover possibly for the crank position sensor, but the '93 dosen't use that so leave it unhooked. Will work fine with no SES if you wire it back like the '93...
Purple power is the same thing as superclean, i researched that a couple of years ago as purple power is a lot cheaper here in GA. Both WILL take your fingernails off with some soaking, so use gloves when cleaning with it. Also avoid paint you want to keep if you can, it's not as strong as...
Aces is 100% on target with that, i got a new AC Delco compressor for my '93 it's bigger than the ones they use now and aside from a long idle on the 6.5being a little warmer it cools great. I got in the routine that when a compresor goes, i just re-work the whole system and it lasts a lot...
When i reworked my A/C in the '93 6.5 dually last year i installed a new compressor, dryer, hoses and Oriface tube. To get the compressor ready, i used the plain jane can of liquid compressor oil - i think it was 4oz - the FSM should have that spec for each auto as it varies depending upon the...
I'ev got a '93 with the single thermostat, I'm running a Robertshaw 180F thermostat. When i first got my truck, i took out the radiator and cleaned the crap out of it, also the trans cooler and A/C radiator as well. Unloaded in 95F days with the A/C on i run 185-190F up/down mountains..etc no...
Yea, i'm about to put my original cover on ebay - nice condition if anyone wants it cheap! :o) With the '92-93 having the 4911 IP and it's notorious hot start issues, i think it holds the heat in when the engine isn't running thus contributing to the hot start issue. The cover remove or not has...
First thing i'd do is junk the turbo power cover, it's a good heat retainer. Good looking truck, interior is similar to my '93 3500. Sounds like a steady miss, which goes with the smoke and uneven engine noises. Crack each injector one at a time, see if it goes away with 1 cylinder. Then you...
I also have the SS diesel HD clutch and dmax fan combo. I noticed a big difference in the airflow and since i did my swap it's been a lot better. At 95F with the A/C on it runs about 190-195F depending upon the grade of the mountain..etc.

My dually was doing the same thing a couple of years ago. I replaced the A,B solinoids and the TCC lockup solinoid. It worked fine for about 6-8 months, then pushed the front seal & bushing out by the torque converter. Needed a complete rebuild at that time. I have replaced those on a 4L60E and...
When i got my truck it ran a little warmer than i would like, usually about 205F. I removed the radiator, tranny & oil cooler and cleaned the crap out of them with the scrubbing bubbles - the A/C condensor as well. The amount of crap that came out just amazed me as it didn't look that dirty!! I...
I recently replaced my DB2 with a newer version from a military HUMMV, i replaced the solinoids with 12v ones and it runs just fine on the ULSD. The military versions (mine was made in '07) are more robust and tolerate the newer fuel better according to my local Standadyne shop. I had them...
On the '92-93's there is only 1 PCM computer and it's behind the dash like yours is. The issue with the codes is very strange or both PCM's are seeing the same issues.

That's the same thing i did, i hate side terminals anyway so when i replaced my batteries i went totally with top terminals. No problems in 3 years, this way i can see the terminals every time i check the oil or do any maint, unlike the crappy side terminals with the plastic over them.
