I am leaning on the drive shaft or input on the tail of the tcase. Did you try flipping the drive shaft 180deg on the ujoints yet? Try greasing the slip on the input splines of the drive shaft into the tcase? I think you said the ujoint have been checked?

If you have stock ubolts you should be fine, look at what you have left for threads showing and subtract the thickness of the shim.

The shim's hole is the same as the axle hole.
