Word. Replaced the multi-function stalk and harness on mine three times before I got a good one, and even this one does stupid stuff sometimes (like allowing the wiper speed control to get out of place if you accidently turn it while switching the high beams - took me six months to figure out...
I tell you what, since you like the idea so much, you sell my wife on it. If you can do that...
Nah, seriously, budget is super tight right now because, while the government will reimburse most of the expenses for this move, that reimbursement is far down the road. We took out a $40k loan to...
I'd advise against adding any copper to the system. Too much of a chance of creating a galvanic reaction that then tries to use the copper as a sacrificial anode to copper plate the inside of the system.
Nothing left of the pump to gut. It was a catastrophic failure of the bearings that also broke the housing. The shaft and pulley are twisted sideways by the tension on the belt, and aren't turning. And while what you say might be a cheaper fix, I don't have the facilities to make one right...
Amazing how the proper amount of sleep, a couple cups of coffee, and daylight help in finding bad parts...
Complete bearing failure on the vacuum pump. That belt had less than 2,000 miles on it, Goodyear Gatorback. Not sure I would have made it home if it hadn't been new.
This was a cab & chassis, so some things are not where you'd normally expect them. For example, alternator is on the passenger side and A/C compressor is on the driver's side. Planning on swapping it out tomorrow though before taking it to the shop.
My thought process ran along the lines of the IP not producing enough pressure, resulting in a weak "pop" on the injectors and poor fuel spray pattern. Can't claim that I thought that completely though though, since I was still working on my first cup of coffee.
No luck finding how to pull codes on this one without a scanner. Checked here: http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/threads/a-little-help-here.2657/#post-50700
I know from experience that Autozone et al won't scan a diesel so I'm planning on limping him over to the shop in the morning.
Another clue... Fuel mileage had been steadily dropping before the injector change, but improved after, just not as much as I hoped. New. less aggressive tread tires helped there also, and it steadied out at 11.5 mpg. On the trip out to get the trailer it dropped to just a tiny bit over 10...
More info on the FIL, he was a senior in HS when WWII started, but his dad made him promise to finish and graduate (first in the family since they came over from Italy to do so) and that's what he did. Went straight from graduation to the recruiting station, where they immediately made him a...
Air filter is a new (under 5,000 miles on it) extended life filter from Amsoil. I forget the part number now but supposed to be rated for 100k. I'll pull it and check anyway though.
Changed the fuel filter which seemed fine, even given I'd let it go far too long. Nothing at all like the...
So, as some of you know, the wife and I are in the process of moving from Fredericksburg, VA to Anchorage, AK. Part of the preps for that involved me driving up to Buena, NJ Friday night to pick up a new trailer (6x12 SA enclosed) to haul stuff up there in. Going up the truck ran well, but not...
