Please post your experiences with tips and tricks that increased your mileage for your 6.5TD rigs!
I will keep this updated with a list of known ways we can decrease fuel consumption.
These are open for debate, but here are some that I see:
High flow air intake/cleaner
High flow...
15.1 city/mixed mileage today. Tonight I am headed on a road trip, so lets see how she does on open highway mileage.
Soon the tire/wheel combination will be changed for mileage as well. Then we'll be able to really tell if this is more efficient than a GM-8!
I do care... I just don't...
Dang it... You guys are correct. Why I missed that sooner is beyond me. If I keep it cracked open, I will only burn/harm the wastegate valve.
This weekend I will try and fabricate a TurboMaster for the HX40II. Which should be pretty easy given a little modification to the stock arm and...
I see what you are saying Huskers6.5. For summer I am in that range before as well, but the winter mix always knocks me off by 1 MPGish.
Please check your actual MPH though with the 245/75 tires. From my experience the 265/75 or 235/85 are right on the money where as the 245/75 is a bit...
About 1000 miles on it to report.
Still very pleased with the conversion! :)
The one nit pick is that I would like to be able to lower the max boost a little bit more, but have run out of adjustment on the stock/provided rod. The Isspro gauge maxs at 15 PSI and so I throttle limit it...
Still lookin good Bruce!
Update: Mileage time. 15.2 MPG mixed/city driving! Not bad and an improvement over the 13.5 winter city driving over the GM-8. I also changed the t-stats to 195F, but not sure of the impact there.
Not that 15.2 is that bragable on its own, but for city driving...
I'm pleased today with the bump in mileage from the new HX40II and 195 t-stats!
15.2... Mixed/city driving! Not bad for stop and go Northern VA traffic parked on I-66. Your either on the brakes or all out cruising 65, not much in between.
... Hopefully soon some PYOs with LLR tires...
I shattered the flexplate a few years ago... What a hellacious noise that was!
Other than that, I seem to eat lift pumps and serp belts (stretched).
FWIW I like the 4L80E... The 4L60E not so much, it is a POS.
OUCH!!!
I guess that is a good and bad thing. Good because you know the HX40II is doing the work! Bad... well because now you need another tranny :(
Keep us posted!
Lookin good Jorge!
I just posted up a few more pictures of the completed installation. http://s844.photobucket.com/albums/ab9/apillowtype2/Suburban%20Install/
Congratulations Jorge!!! Looks great! I will be impatiently waiting to see what your impressions are as well. Did you remove the "silencer ring"? How did you get the stock filter to fit on a 4" pipe?.. I am not sure that stock side post battery is going back in the hole either...
I left the brass ring in place... Someone post some pics on how to remove it and what the actual difference is. :)
... $ wise it depends. But yes I agree that they are within a couple hundred of each other.
Basic HX40II:
- Turbo $280
- Downpipe and fitting $115
- 2.25 to 2.5 coupler...
Ok, I can still peg it out at 15... I cannot figure a way to adjust the rod out any longer to lower boost...
Screw it, time for a bigger boost guage! Let it roll.
Update:
The intake part arrived yesterday! So I installed them last night along with the K&N filter. Now I have a full 4" intake using the K47 airbox... Granted it is tight! Pics later.
I also lengthened the wastegate actuator rod on the HX40II as long as I could go. I *think* this...
Turbonator, the only issue with the HX40II that concerned me was the machining flashing left around the inner portion of the wastegate hole. Other than that, I cannot complain on the quality of the unit at all. It was my nit pick on the snailshell to sand that smooth(er).
The shaft play...
Truth!
In comparison, my wifes '06 Escalade gets 14MPG. So much for new SUV efficiency! LOL
You will never break even on a new car, period. Just keep your old cars until they rust apart at the seams.
My best ever on the Burb was a road trip from VA to Orlando FL with the family packed up for Disney (read not empty). 21MPG. Setup: SSDiesel intake, 4 exhaust (stock crossover), 235/85 Revo tires on steelies, and otherwise stock... I have yet to replicate that! LOL
Normally 15-17 MPG...
EGTs seem to be going down a little.
Cruise at 65MPH 500F and 4 PSI. Effortless in motion, the only drag is wind resistence when pushing 70-75ish. :)
I think the turbo needs to break in a little bit and it will keep goign down in EGTs.
* Keep in mind that I am still on 20 PSI...
