THe later model vortec engines (96+) were fairly high compression compared to the older TBI motors. Which can benefit from a larger exhaust if tuned properly to capitalize. I know of guys running 2.5" pipe on 1.5L Honda motors, but they are running high compression and tuning to actually gain...
The problem is the exhaust exits too slowly, so it doesn't create "vacuum" behind it, which is the aforementioned scavenging. Too big of an exhaust or zero restriction reduces the heat and the velocity of the gas. Only made worse, when changing to different pipe sizes for the manifolds, y-pipe...
Is it hard to start when it does this? Like excessive crank times?
I know the spider injection system in these have the FPR on the outside that can leak fuel when sitting overnight. If this is your issue, I suggest replacing all of it with a new upgraded Multec II injection system for improved...
Waiting a while isn't so bad if you know ahead of time. If you're anything like me, I'm the kinda person who will wait by the door like a crackhead or check the mail (5 mile drive) every hour until m package arrives LOL
If I'm told ahead of time, I can do other things and relax.
Overtightening can cause things to loosen and fall out. Not to say thats what caused it but it can happen. I've overtightened bolts to the point of stripping out the Threads and vibrating back out.
I'd like to believe every word out of his mouth...but every once in a while some wacko comes out of the woodworks and claims to have invented a new fuel saving device that will change the future. Not sure why they would want to be so bold but they are.
If it works, I will eat my shoes and buy...
I'm up in Labrador (slightly warmer climate than Alaska but almost as far North) and i never had the fuel heater hooked up. I never knew i had one, only when i found it with the intake manifold off and pulled it out. The wires had been cut some time before i ever got my hands on it. Never had a...
Adding a prefilter to a lift pump is just added insurance and added life to the pump. If there is any foreign contaminants in the tank that gets loose, there is not much stopping it from getting into the lift pump. Depending on the warranty, not having a prefilter is a definite void to whatever...
There are some good parts to the 4.3L and that it can be quite fuel efficient if driven carefully. They can take a miserable beating and still beg for more. I've driven the sweet piss out of my 98 K1500 and it still runs. I drove it an entire summer with a weapy water pump, so i'd just fill the...
If you keep the 4.3L instead of an engine swap, here is the list of things i would do if i built up my 4.3L.
-Mail order ECU tune (more bang for the buck compared to a handheld and much cheaper)
-E-fans
-Upgraded multec II spider injection system
-Intake manifold spacer
-Crane cams makes a cam...
Fram is owned by honeywell, so check the filter to see who manufactured it because odds are 6 out of every ten is gonna be manufactured by Honeywell. I've seen some filters from other brands made by honeywell but also made by other companies as well but under the same brand, so be careful.
Not...
I bought a used DB2831-5079 pump from a military 6.5TD HMMWV and a seal kit for just under $200 CAD (with shipping), so far i've found that both the driveshaft and the housing itself were corroded to the point of utter uselessness, so i swapped it all over to my OEM c-code housing using the old...
My 6.2 has been awesome to me. Had it for 7 or 8 years (my folks bought it, i bought it from them). I did zero maintenance to this over it's lifetime (engine wise) other than fluids, filters and injector cleaner and stuff. Last august i replaced the glow plugs (couldn't even start it in the...
A P400 6.5TD (DB2 pumped) w/NV4500 would be the dream swap for my K5 (simple, yet stockish)
A dream diesel truck would be a C30 burb w/custom boxed frame and P-pump cummins and NV4500 or modified 4L80E. Have just the front seats installed and the rest of the burb act as a sleeping area or large...
