I would recommend that a large piece of aluminum be used as a heatsink rather than the fender body metal.The aluminum will absorb and release the heat generated by the PMD much better.
In stock form there should be small bushing between the positive cables on the passenger side battery,this bushing can get lost over time but is required to make a solid contact between the cables.
I prefer to replace the cable ends in that area with copper ends soldered on the cables and then...

Timeset is only really usefull for making sure the stepper motor is working.
TDCO is the important timing number.
Start with the IP mounted straight up and down using the FSO as a reference.
Bring the engine up to 170f+ and perforn the TDCO relearn and note results.

Everyone uses these numbers as gospel and there is no reason not to.
But,though the majority of members live in the US-there are many from Canada and around the world.

The quickest check is start the engine from cold and right away check for a firm upper rad hose,if the hose is soft then good-if it is firm right from the get go then you have issues.
Very likely the vendor got to the end of the rolls of wire and didn't want to throw money away,and soldered the new rolls right in behind to complete the harness.
The next guys got the one without splices.
