you can wipe a heavy coat of vaseline on the rubber, then wash it off when the paint dries. anything petroleum based like maybe even tire shine products will not allow the paint to adhere to the rubber
I wonder when it says if installed torqued properly etc, if this means it MUST be mounted on the pump again? This would be a PITA.

I cracked a reverse piston and it shuders a bit. if I throttled hard it would out and out slip.
I get the new tranny in about 3 hrs and will start installing.
also check bellhousing bolts for tight.

This is correct. in "retarders for retards" terminology, it turns the engine into a big compressor. Drive line turns it instead of it turning the driveline
