Took a few hours and cleaned all the grounds very well yesterday. Made sure to use an angle grinder to help clean surfaces. Also the grounds by the dipstick bolt, I bonded that to another head stud (the batt ground stud) as the dipstick bracket was painted and I didn't want to just rely on the...
Just talked to Jon (son) about that one in particular. He said they forgot about it initially when they put the head back on. After realizing the mistake they retrofitted it on. I'm still navigating carefully through the "grounds post" and will inspect first thing tomorrow to see the lay of the...
Ok good input...will check that tomorrow. With that said the IP and the injectors are new (doesn't mean the injectors were set correctly though, considering that I had to adjust the IP timing correctly anyway). The PO had the work done, but the PMD was shot and they were unable to resolve the...
When we replaced the head gasket the batts were out for a week...and then when we buttoned it all up it ran like a dream for weeks before the issues described were occurring.
As a note I have an Auto Fundamentals book that I'm referencing for troubleshooting here and there. I found the section on injection and thought I'd share a bit of it:
"Injector Pulse Width refers to the amount of time during which the injector electronic solenoid is energized, causing the...
Here's my thought. While it's true that the heads & manifold were machined for each other, they must be warped to some degree now with the noise we were hearing, as using the gasket has dramatically cut down the noise. It really has been very noticeable to all the family. I could have taken the...
Quick update: After considering the input on the forum...we've made some changes. We decided to take the system apart and clean it more thoroughly. Using compressed air we blew out the lines from the compressor back. Then the rear evaporator. Found quite a bit more gunk in the system. Went to...
Yes, sorry...the accumulator/dryer was changed, as not doing such would have invalidated the compressor warranty...just forgot to mention :) The system was blown out with air :)
Quick update on the air conditioning: the orifice tube filter at the Y connection under the passenger side battery was jam packed with metal debris, restricting refrigerant flow. This was causing the rear and front air to not function all the time. We did change the compressor as it was...
Good point. I believe what interested me was that it was one "tool" that helped in diagnosing a potential issue. Just found the vid to be informative :)
Sorry for my slack on getting this answered (haven't been on the forum)...the transmission error is gone, as are a number of other codes :D The burb is running quite well indeed...actually, extremely well. We just replaced the AC compressor and expansion valve in the rear and I'll be filling the...
Update: Boys finished the burb just before I got home today. Took about 15 seconds for it to crank and it ran like a champ. The cooling system is working very well now. The old water pump was full of rust, which was a surprise. I think the other thing that I noticed most was how quiet it had...
Good point on doing it pro-actively every 4 months...will do! The fuel lines were in decent condition, as the PO had the IP/injectors changed prior to me purchasing it. With respect to free tools, yes we did find one! Guess what it was *fat grin* ... it was a SnapOn s-bend wrench that was for...
Ok, will take a few hours in the a.m. to complete the work before we can start her up. Yes, I'm very much looking forward to getting the burb back on the road :)
