    Diff gear ratio suggestions

On the open road, my truck and I are most comfortable at 65mph. Throw in the 5% error (68-69 real mph) and we're still under the radar. On the back roads, it's usually around 50mph or so. No jackrabbit stuff, fairly steady even acceleration, and I try to keep things pretty steady as I drive...

    Diff gear ratio suggestions

It's pretty much what I get tank after tank, whether I'm commuting or on the highway. Seems pretty consistent. What's your rpm at 60? Reason I ask, 2300rpm at 60 seems kinda high. I'm wondering if one of the PO's didn't install some aftermarket gearset. 4.56, maybe? I'll take a closer...

Well, when I pull these, you're welcome to them. Understand, it'll be sometime this Spring, but if ti's worth the price of shipping, they're yours. Out of curiousity, what's your engine rpm at 60?

JB - I'm running 235/85R16's. They're a bit bigger & wider than the tires that were on it when I drug it home over a year ago. (I think those were 80's, not sure) I tracked my speedo/ODO using milemarkers on I20, and I'm right at 5% off. I can live with 3mph at freeway speeds. What I'd like...

    Diff gear ratio suggestions

Looks like our wheelbases are pretty similar - you've got a crewcab short box and I've got an extended cab longbed. I bet our vehicle weights are kinda close, too. Although I've got two extra tires on the ground, you have the drag of a front drive axle. Right now, in OD with the TC clutch...

    Diff gear ratio suggestions

Last April, after spending a year tinkering and twiddling, I got my truck running. I bought it from the 2nd owner, after it had been sitting by the repair shop for over a year. (This was the first time it'd run in over 4 years.) The whole sorry saga is listed on the oilburners page under...

    What was GM thinking?

Right on both counts! I should've put a smiley face on there to show I was joking. ooops. Several folks have noted that there seems to be some difference in the colors called for and the colors found. We use Mitchel On Demand internet automotive data base, and we see this all the time...

    What was GM thinking?

I had my dash out last week, replacing the heater core and evaporator. I figured I'd also run the wires for the torque converter clutch and the PTO idle speed mod. Like you, my harness did NOT contain the tan/black wire called for; my wire was dark blue. Sure nuff, when I pulled a set of...

    Effeciancy?

All seriousness aside, you've got one of the best auto trannies available to the light truck market. To get any heavier/stronger, you're looking at the Allison autos, and those require more than three times the HP to turn 'em. I'm keeping my 4L80.

    "MAX" Button

I just finished reinstalling my evaporator case/airconditioning unit. I had pulled it out of the truck to replace the evaporator core and the heater core. Tons of fun. OK, here's how to find your recirc door actuator: Look under the dash on the pax side. Find the a/c blower fan. Put your...

    Effeciancy?

The hp loss thru your 4L80 is less than 20hp - realistically, somewhere between 15 and 18. We have an electric tranny dyno at our training facility; the next time I test one of these, I'll do the amps/volts/watts thing and figure hp loss. Just for kicks, I'll also ask the GM tranny folks at...
