If you had to Build a 6.5

Fantasy 6.5 with no budget limits? OK, here goes: P400 with block, pistons, heck everything metal bead blasted and cryo treated before assembly. Copper gaskets where appropiate. All fasteners cryo treated, custom oil pan machined for extra strength, capacity and cooling, just like the tranny...

    Fluidampr....

I just installed mine last week, OK, maybe 2 weeks ago. The only thing I can add to Packratts concise instructions is that when you go to start the new unit on, tap it on with a rubber hammer at the most. Don't use any sharp impact or force. At this point spin the puller (minus the smaller...

    Hydroboost/powersteering question...

Synthetic Valvoline or synthetic redline. The point is, synthetic. Not even a problem at -35C.

    flex plate size for 6.5/4L80E?

The Fluidampr is in! It arrived this morning at work and I stayed after work and used the shop to install it. It didn't get rid of the vibration issue but it did make a difference. Green Thunder now has a noticeable deeper and softer rumble. It's a load off that I'm not vibrating the hell out of...

    A-Team turbo on board

Nice pics Matuva! Now, is the intake brass or gold plated?):h As for the politics, I still surf over there and maybe the odd post but after finding this, the familiar names, the expertise, the open discussion, the laid back attitudes, I just automatically come here. I can sense the political...

    flex plate size for 6.5/4L80E?

I agree. The nice thing is I'll be able to do the damper. The tranny was a little daunting and with work, not a chance. Even if it isn't the damper, I've been itching to get this on.... I'll be ordering it tomorrow!

    flex plate size for 6.5/4L80E?

Yes it does vibrate as I rev it up. The vibration is more pronounced when under load. I put the truck up on ramps the other day to remove the cover, but I'll have to remove the x-over. When the exhaust was installed the muffler man forgot the driver side flange, had to cut off the connecting end...

    flex plate size for 6.5/4L80E?

So far what I've figured out is that the flexplate has an O.D. of 14.23 inches and seems to have 168 teeth. Would this be the same flexplate used on the 454/4L80E of possibly another combo? Is it internally or externally balanced, or maybe counterweighted? There seems to be a lot of options for...

New Custom Bumper for 88-00 trucks

Absolutely! I was suggesting as there are a lot of I/Cs' out there. Still, a strategically placed "scoop" may effectively force some additional air flow.

    flex plate size for 6.5/4L80E?

After grenading my transfer case a couple months ago and replacing it, and both driveshafts, I still have a vibration that has been slowly getting worse. Everything else seems fine on visual inspection, the vibration is speed related, although it seems to increase with RPM. The colder it is, the...

New Custom Bumper for 88-00 trucks

I am currently looking at some upcoming mods on my truck and can't say that bumpers were on the list, however.... I find the geometry of these interesting. They look more aerodynamic than most, large animal hits would be more likely deflected, and I personally think they look good. My concerns...

    1995 Silverado door panels/speakers

My truck is a 97 so I believe the panels are a little different, but the basics should be the same. You'll need a door panel fastener removal tool and a bunch of new fasteners (retainers) as the old ones suffer a high casualty rate with removal. They are nylon and seem to made for one time use...

    6.5 Powers Obama's Caddy?

Seriously, do you suppose it's an Optimizer6500, hopped up even? It's gotta be.. Guarenteed, we'll never know. Far less seriously, imagine some Monty Pythonesque terrorist attempt on it using an '80's diesel chevette, and then the chevette outruns it to get away!!

Bypass filter for the turbo oil line?

I'm not going down this road anymore, but man, I sure appreciate the education! There is never enough. Thanks Missy and GMCTD...

Bypass filter for the turbo oil line?

Not that I hadn't noted Turbine Docs advice, adding this clinches it. I actually knew and understood this but hadn't thought of the possible effects of a pressure drop. Idea cancelled... Thank you gentlemen. By the way Slim. Does your new turbo kit have a floating bearing?:ponder:

Bypass filter for the turbo oil line?

At this point I am contemplating the single filter kit between the block and the turbo. The website info claims that all the oil in the system is filtered in under 10 minutes but I may be misunderstanding this. I currently have a full flow filter and a setrab cooler plumbed into the turbo line...

Bypass filter for the turbo oil line?

The turbo oil does return to the engine. It is in essence a bypass circuit already. I figured filtering enroute to the turbo would be convenient for installation, location and maintenance of the filter, and as I said, nice clean cool oil to the hottest fastest moving part in the engine. The...

Bypass filter for the turbo oil line?

The local napa dealer offered me an Amsoil bypass filter kit at cost ($80 cdn). I currently have a small full flow filter and cooler plumbed between the block outlet and the turbo and was thinking about R&Ring the full flow filter with the bypass. The Amsoil website says the system can filter...

    Replacement headlights...

Something else to consider is how well do the composites throw off the extra heat of more intense bulbs. Especially if you run the heavy duty wiring harness like me. I seem to go through bulbs in the summer far more than the winter.

    Circulating heaters

I have both a block heater and a circulating heater that came installed when I bought my truck. Unless it's down to -30C I only use the block heater. It seems that the circulating heater is set up so it circulates in such a way that when I use it in "normal" winter temps (-10C or so) the coolant...
