I don't think that's duct tape. It looks like some kind of plasma-cut aluminum reinforcement. Seriously cool!  I wonder if he's just sell the air box assembly? I'll email him and ask.
Yeah, it could be a wonderful opportunity. I've seen some of the past work that has rolled out of that program - pretty impressive. All I'm responsible for is materials. And patience. Ya just gotta remember - they work reeeeeeeeel sloooooooooww. I was kinda shooting for Valentine's Day...
The whole cavitation issue was due to cylinder wall thickness decreasing to the overbore (6.9L to 7.3L). The 6.5 walls are sufficiently thick to prevent that from occurring. Simply not an issue with this motor. For us, the only question we face is what antifreeze/coolant to use. I've used...
Nope. Not on this weblist; not with this group. What I've seen so far is folks looking for info without hidden agendas, and folks willing to share knowledge without ego tripping. Great combination!
:iagree: :iagree: :iagree:
Oh yeah! I know EXACTLY what yer talkin about! The dually in my avatar was sitting beside a local repair shop for over a year. I bought it and drug it to the house. I already had a DD - an 85 F250 6.9, so I didn't need another truck. The idea of a dually...
Hi Len!
You've got the right guy! Several (maybe 4) years ago, you sold me an instrument panel with a tach setup. Installed it and been using it ever since. Works like a champ. Couple of years ago, I bought a 94 Chevy 1Ton dually that had been sitting for almost four years. The owner was...
Zach, if your lift pump diaphragm is bad, you'll have fuel leakage into your oil pan as the fuel drains back down thru the hole in the diaphragm, past the pump lever and into the oil pan. Check you oil level to see if it's rising. Chances are, you're losing your prime thru a leak in one...
THAT's why I've got these guys saved in my favorites! I haven't looked at that webpage in a while, but when I clicked on it and looked, the lightbulb over my head sorta clicked on. I don't remember feeling one way or the other about these guys. It was kinda like "Oh, another source for stuff...
OK, here's my .02:
Consider replacing your suburban with another, later 6.5 version. Compared to the prices you're seeing on the DuraMax forums, there are some GREAT 6.5 deals out there. In addition ot more purchase bang-for-buck, the 6.5 is a very user-friendly motor to work on and parts...
That little doo-dah is called a 'guide stud', and it provides a smooth machined surface for the governor assembly to slide back and forth on. There's a small diameter spring that sits inside the governor assembly. The end of the guide stud hits this spring when the engine is throttled back to...
I've heard good things about Suncoast TC's. I'll continue digging, but I gotta tell ya, I'm leaning towards OEM. I've got over 200K on a truck that's been SERIOUSLY used by two folks before me, and the tranny works without a hiccup. Now that I've added Bill Heath's GL4 chip,it's GREAT.
You're thinking of a driveline retarder. Ambulances and some motor homes use them to save wear on pads and shoes. Big, heavy and man do they get hot in operation! Our tranny dyno used two of them to simulate load. Very cool and VERY effective. Here's more info on how they work...
Don't know anything about the 85's. Wonder if that's what was bolted up behind the DuraMax motors.... I've seen a little info on the 80's used behind a detuned version of the DM. Same bellhousing bolt pattern, different torque converter. The 2004 tranny that the guy has is bolted behind a...
Ya know, I can do that! ):h Thanks for the info!
Seriously, there's a guy in Longview (about 20 miles form here) that's dismantling some commercial delivery vehicles. He claims the 4L80's he's pulling are all in good shape. I'd like to get a 99 or later and go thru it and get it ready to...
Actually, that's what I was wondering about. I'm looking at installing a newer 4L80 in my 94 one ton dually. Found several trannies that would be good rebuilders - a 97, a 2000 and a 2004. Still researching if it's truly 'plug and play'.
Sorry, I'm NOT a good resource when it comes to establishing value. 'Specially on vehicles. Buy High, Sell Low. That's my motto. :nonod: Marty (Loving Wife) has always sed that if you took a turd and painted it gold, I'd walk 3miles barefoot in the snow to buy it from you. :D
You're right! I forgot about that 3rd idle speed. Yeah, 1600rpm on a cold morning would sound a little scary....
Here in east Tx, we only have a few mornings where it's seriously cold (below 20). I don't use the switch a lot, but it sure is handy to have it when I need it. Another...
Bob -
This is off-topic, because you're specifically asking for info about the 6.0 PS. I don't have what you're asking for, so feel free to bypass my response.
What I DO have is a 16-year-old truck with over 200K on the clock. I'm the third owner. First owner hauled a large fifth wheel...
