 Man, I get that. Here in east Tx, we usually have pretty mild winters - freezing temps at night, but usually in the 50's during the day. This winter, we've consistently had daytime temps in the 20's!  Way too darn cold to be working on the carport. :nonod:
Thanks for the thoughts Barry! Yeah, raises in education are pretty much non-existent. Like I said, the legislature is considering 'regressive raises'. Gotta love it! Ya know, I'd love to see these guys start applying some of the stuff they pass to themselves! Now THAT would be a hoot! If...
 Yup. Very heavy - almost 200 pounds. If you're talking transfer case attached, total weight hits around 270#. Not something you want to get away form you under the truck. A tranny jack would be a real help in keeping that much weight steady. If you're gonna use a floor...
First, the whine:
Here in Texas, we have a real finance disaster unfolding. Our legislature has based future funding on a continuing rise in sales tax that simply hasn't occurred. People are becoming more conservative/worried and are choosing to save money rather than spend it. This concept...
My plastic tanks are starting to leak - no obvious coolant, but stains are starting to appear. Instead of patching this one up, I'd be really interested in replacing my aluminum radiator with something all metal. This summer, I'm installing an external trans cooler. That'd be the perfect time...
Fret not. I bought one of their starter for my Ford 6.9. It lasted about 14 months. Was it the very best long term solution? Nope. Did it get me out of a tight spot on a Sunday afternoon and keep me going for awhile? Absolutely.
You'll be fine.
:thumbsup: Same here. Had a dual stat system on the shelf. Decided to keep the single stat and add the HO pump, HD fan clutch and plastic DMax fan. No regrets.
Fort Riley, Kansas - 5 hours north of my mom's house in OKC:

Click on the thumbnails and go to pic #17. Talk about beautiful! :agreed: The price went up $200 overnight and bidding doesn't end till 5pm EST today. Doesn't look...
Bingo! I think it's only the exhaust valves that're supposed to rotate. :hihi:
Also, what's going on with the head bolt hole between #6 and #8, near the water passage? Looks like some kind of weird insert??
Yeah, after looking at those two most recent auctions, the $750 motor earlier this summer doesn't seem so bad! I get what you're saying about the total cost, though. Even at that price, it's still a bargain to be able to pull it out of the crate, bolt on the civilian oil pan, the correct IP...
I've been watching the auctions, too. My plan is to come up with a good (hopefully new) surplus motor to put into my dually after Christmas. It seems though, that the prices have been climbing! :nonod:
At the end of July, these brand new GEP motors were available at Fort Jackson, SC...
I talked to that guy in August. Figured I'd drop by and take a look at it on my way to OKC check on Mom. The guy didn't seem to have a whole lot of info, and my impression was that it has been sitting (outside) for a long time. He also didn't seem too concerned about whether it sold anytime...
x2 When I had my inner fender wells off for radiator work and glow plug R&R, I decided to leave them off. With all the uproar about limited airflow, I figured a few hundred square inches of additional exit point couldn't hurt.
Thanks for the link and the warning!
Since I'd be buying an entire engine, the oil pan would come with it. Now all I gotta do is figure out the following:
Will the military pan configuration fit in my 2wd truck
Will I need to buy a civvy pan and oil pump/pickup
Are there...
Not much difference at all. I'm liking it! :D :D
Ya know, I kinda like the idea of running the 6.2 heads. Use the late-model diamond precups and the .010" thicker head gasket. That would be a great backup plan!
Honestly, once I get it on/together, I'm not messing with it...
Thanks for the reminder! I spent a chunk of yesterday afternoon/evening reading the GL FAQ's section. Came away with two thoughts: communicate, communicate, communicate and call the base contact to be sure that load-out help is available. There's no way on this earth I'm gonna be...
Out on the left coast, there are some interesting deals coming up:

However, notice that all the pics for the different auctions from this base, are identical. Several military bases do this - use one or two 'representative photos'...
