I have been looking long and hard, speaking with many places about engine blocks and am trying to locate a member here who has done this. I THINK it was Ratman, but IIRC, someone had a 6.5 engine block cast, and had the inner main cap bolt holes not drilled.
I am trying to find out who it was...
I used to use it all the time, along with my 0w-40 synthetic oil, and I was getting too low of oil pressure at 5500 RPM on my 383 stroker. I didn't put any Lucas oil stabilizer this time, and my high RPM oil pressure is now back in the comfort zone. Just my experience.
I remember you asked it somewhere if the factory torque converter is blue...
I know when I had my TH400 rebuilt, he installed a new (stock) torque converter and it was that same blue colour. I have also seen another truck with a blue converter, so I'm thinking it is just a factory replacement...
Thank you so much for this write-up :) I am going to install clearance lights on my '96 Chevy this week, and was about to post, asking for the stock locations.
I have a couple questions... Can I get those rubber inserts (for the screws) at most parts stores? And where do the factory clearance...
If I was to choose between those three colours, I'd go red... but if the girlfriend has a say in it  My next choice would be Ratman Yellow with either black or aluminum paint.
I've got the drawings for a full ladder girdle mostly all drawn up, goes over top of the center of the main caps as well, but no money for machining it out right now.
It's good to know that there are other people willing to take a few minutes out of their day to help out a fellow 6.5er, or hotrodder. I stop every time I see someone with a truck/car I know how to work on broke down.

As for the timing gears... I steered away from them in my 383 stroker because I read stuff about harmonics, but now I have changed my mind for two reasons.
1. The gears provide more accurate timing, which creates less of a pressure differential between cylinders, and therefore a smoother...
Yes, x4 replace the head bolts. Once TTY bolts are... "torqued" to their yield point, they loose their strength.
SLIGHTLY off topic, but aren't the main bolts TTY? The specs I see for them IIRC said so much torque, plus so many degrees.
I would try a certified scale, scrap steel yard around here is sketchy too. My 1987 GMC 1500HD is a REAL lightweight... 4078 lbs. with a full 20 gallons of fuel. Just shaved more weight, so should weigh about 4028 lbs.
I can't wait to weigh my new 3500HD, with just the frame, engine...
Rear Door Handles
Here are a couple pictures I have saved to my computer, of a 3500HD Crew Cab truck. I got the link to the Ebay listing by searching for the "rare rig" thread here. As you can see, the rear door handles look the exact same as the front ones, locks and all.
Nice write up, there is a 3500HD that has been sitting in this guys "junk" yard for a number of years, think I will go see if he would part with the door handles and rods. If I'm lucky it will have a 599 block 6.5 too. :D I can see it from my house right now it's so close.
IIRC, the FilterMag has a 600 lb. pull, it takes a lot of magnetic force to hold all the metal particles against the case of the oil filter, without being taken away with the flow of oil.
