Haven't actually seen them, still at buddys house. He is gonna bring 'em back tomorrow, so I'll look closely at 'em. He says that they are cracked wors at one end. I assume that would be the end that was at the firewall since these engines have cooling issues with those cyls. The valves were...
On another note, Got a piston that will work, changed over and ready to go in, got a text from the bud with heads............... CRACKED between valves on BOTH heads. DAMMIT MAN! This shhhhtuf is gettin annoying and expensive! Wife went in and picked up gaskets and bearings I had ordered.
I had read somwhere about the diff piston sizes. Green machine dropped off 4 pistons for me today so hopefully one of those will work.
She only has less than 139,000 miles on her, but I guess it was time for #6 to go.... gotta look into the injector thing....
Got a friend that picked up...
Got both heads off and all the others look fine not so much as a scratch.
As for the bearings, the top (or piston side) of the one I have out shows a few layers have been worn away, not to copper yet but I think it is worth the effort. Also has a few "questionable" marks on the lower half...
Thanks guys,
I haven't got one yet but just waiting for it to be dropped off.
I will keep yuns informed as to what is going on.
Cyl wall is OK, no scratches in fact I still see crosshatching in all 8. Gonna replace rod bearings while I am in there. Really don't know the cause of this...
Truck started to miss on the way home from work Friday, so Sat morning started to "investigate" ended up tearing it down found the #6 piston cracked. Anyone got a spare I could get? I know all the stuff I SHOULD do but lets please not get into that...... Just need a Piston for my truck...
I could just remove the outer wheels and the fenders, but I just don't want to do it that bad. I was hoping to make it look "factory" I am willing to not swap the axle but really want to have the "right" bed sides. Pretty much have given up on a "swap" and figure on staying dually. Just was...
YUP there's an "o" ring in there and that is a common issue with these trucks. Most opt to take that whole fitting out of the crossover and get a hose barb with about a 4" section of hose and cut the end off of the aluminum hose so you can slide the new hose on there and connect to the barb...
The cowl hood does not let air out (mysteriously) it actually lets air into the engine compartment when driving. I had leaves laying on there and expected them to be blown off and could actually see it being sucked or pressed against the back of the hood. This is the "induction" part when the...
I put a cowl hood on my truck last fall, ran awhile without the insulation, then decided to install it cause I was tired of seeing it laying in the garage. The noise level did drop drastically but can not say anything about the temps. I would suggest running a bit without the insulation then...
Well I appreciate the info guys, but hope to find some one that will want to swap parts and such. Can't seem to find any one close enough to "test" fit reg wheels but not giving up on this yet.
I would be interested in some pics of your set up. Particularly along the side and the rear wheel wells. kind of want to see how the rear tracks in line with the fronts please.
