    1996 K2500 “Krovvy”

Last night the truck left the property for the first time in 5 years. My brother did an alignment today. The numbers look good. He played with the camber to compensate for road crown and said it drives down the road really nice. “Really tight” he called it….it better with all the new parts...

    My Shop

That looks like a great space. I’d love to have a bumpout with machining tools like that one day. Well done.

I just used some 4-1/2” paint and rust stripping wheels on my angle grinder. https://a.co/d/fZ2EwKE I then cleaned them with some degreaser. Once dry, I sprayed them with self-etching primer. Top coat is semi gloss Rustoleum.

Yesterday I stripped and painted the wiper arms and then I installed them today. Much better than when they were flaking paint.

    1996 K2500 “Krovvy”

Today my brother and I found a pretty good hood at the junkyard for the truck. The original one had a bunch of dents and rust that really detracted from the overall truck. I took off the tires that were on the wheels and mounted some 265/75s. I also mounted some 2” spacers in the rear so...

I started reassembling the front diff tonight. It took over an hour just to get the 2 pinion races installed in the case with the tools I had (both real tools and improvised). Tomorrow night I should be able to make some real progress now that this step is done.

    Blowing Glows

Are you buying your glows from the same place every time? Any chance they’re counterfeit ACs?

Yesterday I continued front suspension assembly. I got the bushings and lower ball joints all pressed in. After wire wheeling fasteners I started installing parts. The last thing I did was start to install the Mevotech TTX upper ball joints. I noticed there was a raised logo on the surface that...

It was a series of 5 videos. I only watched the last 3, but this link should be the playlist for all 5. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGgqTh7gBpU1D9CmpUj2eMZisShEPBXXX&si=FhST5r96pBL9q2Uv

I got the box finished up today. I decided to watch a video on YouTube to get some tips on installing the balls and that helped a lot - one tip I used was to smear grease on the inside of the rack to help hold the balls in place, the other tip was to use a piece of 3/8 fuel hose to help hold the...

I already painted them along with the other parts last weekend. I had already stripped them to bare aluminum so I did a couple coats of self-etching primer, then a coat of regular primer and then 2 coats of the KBS Maxx in Hot Rod Black. I’m really liking how this KBS Maxx is feeling as I’m...

Did you powdercoat them yourself or have them done by someone? I got a quote from a local guy to powdercoat the HD handles - he wanted $100. That seemed pricey. I looked at the Eastwood stuff and thought about using that money to invest in powdercoating equipment instead, but the space for an...

The factory manual has the procedure for setting the adjustments. I did a test installation of the balls last night to get a feel for it and will be doing the full assembly today. I did have one fall past the shaft during my test. Good to know how bad that could be!

Old bearing (left) had the plastic cage. New bearing (right) is solid needles. I checked the bore with a Starrett telescoping gauge and it felt concentric. I didn’t notice any problems with this box when I was driving the truck, I just wanted to do some proactive work so it hopefully lasts...

Thank for the tip, I'll check that out when I go back out there. Yeah, these boxes also have black and plain chrome balls in them.

The manual said to plug the ends of that tube with petroleum jelly, so you were on the right track!
