Wow, I haven't seen your name on here in a while, though I probably just missed you since I don't "hang out" in the other areas as much as I used to.
I would like to fully box the frame, but that would require me re-engineering all of the crossmembers as well, and that isn't something I'm...
The driver quarter panel is getting some rust coming through from the inside (the Rust Belt strikes again!!) so I get to do some rust repair on this vehicle sooner rather than later. I looked into buying a whole quarter panel from GM for $800+ and having that replaced professionally, but decided...
I had last week off, so my plan was to sandblast the frame, then paint the frame and hopefully start reassembly. I didn’t expect to have to spend 30 hours just sandblasting, so that’s pretty much all I got done. It was a lot of pieces though, so I guess it makes sense. I spent about 20 hours...
I think it was taken care of pretty well. I had to replace a floor pan and a cab corner, and one of the fenders is a bit rusty, but overall it’s pretty solid. It has a dealership tag on the tailgate from a local dealership, so I’m pretty sure it’s been around here its whole life.
Finally got the front suspension all together.
To finish the front diff I had to buy a new adjuster and tool for tightening it. I tried removing the driver side adjuster with a hammer and drift punch. That didn’t go well - it mushroomed the tabs so they dug into the bore of the diff housing. I...
The truck was delivered to my dad’s house today. Now he just needs to insure and register it.
There’s a local car show on May 6th he’s planning to take it to, so he’ll have to get that stuff done before then.
Last night the truck left the property for the first time in 5 years.
My brother did an alignment today. The numbers look good. He played with the camber to compensate for road crown and said it drives down the road really nice. “Really tight” he called it….it better with all the new parts...
I just used some 4-1/2” paint and rust stripping wheels on my angle grinder.

I then cleaned them with some degreaser. Once dry, I sprayed them with self-etching primer. Top coat is semi gloss Rustoleum.
Today my brother and I found a pretty good hood at the junkyard for the truck.
The original one had a bunch of dents and rust that really detracted from the overall truck.
I took off the tires that were on the wheels and mounted some 265/75s. I also mounted some 2” spacers in the rear so...
I started reassembling the front diff tonight. It took over an hour just to get the 2 pinion races installed in the case with the tools I had (both real tools and improvised). Tomorrow night I should be able to make some real progress now that this step is done.
